[INTERVIEW] Samsung Social Media Manager

We recently just interviewed the Social Media Manager of Samsung. His name is Esteban Conteras and he is great at what he does. Hear what he has to say about many things including the Nexus Two rumor, the Galaxy Tab, social media, and more!

1) Why did you take an interest in social media for a tech company like Samsung?

I’m very interested in how technology is changing the way that we communicate and how it can enhance relationships between brands and their customers. Social media is very much like a synapse connecting us to each other. After working in marketing and technology consulting for some time, I knew that I wanted to focus on what was happening in the rapidly changing social web.

I decided to join Samsung because it is a brand that I’ve always admired and because everyone that works here is very talented. It was also a great opportunity because it was the first social media position at Samsung in the U.S. It has been very rewarding to be an ambassador for Samsung as well as an ambassador for our customers.

2) What are your thoughts on the future of Samsung in the industry?

Samsung is uniquely positioned in the industry because of our brand, our products, and our teams. I’m quite confident that our future is bright. Some of our latest products like the Galaxy Tab and our 3D Smart TVs are signs of what’s to come.

3) Rumors… the Nexus Two, any comments?

5) What do you suppose will happen at y’alls media event on November 8?

You’ll just have to wait and see.

6) Will the media event be broadcasted and where will it be able to be viewed if so?

We will be live tweeting at @SamsungMobileUS and @SamsungTweets

7) What tools do you believe could change social media as we know it?

We’re seeing amazing examples of live content production and sharing. For example, we can now easily stream music over Pandora, record our own podcasts using BlogTalkRadio and even record mini podcasts from our phones using Cinch. We’re seeing video streaming on Livestream and video chatting on our mobile devices (this is one of the reasons why I’m very excited about the Galaxy Tab!). I’m also closely watching the future of augmented reality with companies like Metaio and Layar, location-based apps like Foursquare and Gowalla, and of course,  innovations by Facebook, Twitter, and Google.

8) Do you think that stolen iPhone prototype being bought by Gizmodo would be a good tactic to obtain attention of the press for a company like Samsung?

9) Can you give a description or some tiny details about any future products by Samsung?

We make a lot of products and I must be honest that I myself do not know about what our future products will look like. I do think we’ll see further innovations around convergence, mobility and sharing.

10) What do you think the toughest part about being a Social Media Manager is?

Social media is still very new and it’s changing the processes that companies had been used to following for many years. One of my biggest challenges is that we do not have unlimited resources so we must be very customer-centric as well as very strategic while demonstrating the value of social media to the organization. It’s a challenge but it’s also exciting to know that the opportunities are vast.
