While presenting at the 27th Communication Congress in Berlin, a group of hackers called fail0verflow made a breakthrough that stunned the PS3 hacking community: They managed to bypass the console’s major security barriers. The group was able to gain the same access Sony has in deciding what software to allow by gaining access to encryption keys. The keys were shown in the demonstration and are now available for the public.
Embattled WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been attacked from all fronts this week, following the release of thousands of confidential memos from the state department. Apparently he’s only released a very small portion, and he says he has a lot more stuff in his storage banks, including five gigs worth of Bank of America documents that he promises will rock their vaults.
A title update for Call of Duty: Black Ops has been released for both the 360 and PlayStation 3. Bethesda Softworks pushed out a patch for the Xbox 360 version of Fallout: New Vegas last night, which, like the PC patch released earlier this week, should address some of the quest and scripting issues that players have reported seeing. The PlayStation 3 version is in the final testing stages, so expect it shortly. The PC version also received an updated patch yesterday meant to fix issues related to autosaves and quicksaves. Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty: Black Ops, has managed to both pat itself on the back and apologize to sensitive gamers by saying that its technology is too good at depicting violence and may have needed to be toned down (or was toned down, it’s unclear).
In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Dominique Drozdz, the game’s animation director, said, “There were situations going too far. It was a contextual kill where you were twisting the neck. It was too much. The throat cutting [is] nasty, but that was worse.”
It has been reported that a couple of copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops has been stolen from the printing company.
