13 years later, here is a new cinematic of Sonic Chronicles

One of the cartoonists on the RPG Sonic released more than 13 years ago has just unveiled a new 2D animation that has never been integrated into the game.

Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood. If this name is familiar to you, then you have known the only game Sonic developed not as a racing or adventure game, but as a real RPG. Released in 2008, it has the particularity of having been developed by the BioWare studio, today well known for its Mass Effect franchises, Dragon age but also the sublime ones Baldur’s gate or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR for close friends). When we know that, we better understand the RPG side of this opus Sonic.

However, and despite its great potential, the game released on Nintendo DS has never been a fan favorite, undoubtedly too different from the other parts of the saga. For those who don’t remember, or who are hearing about this game for the first time, here is an excerpt from the introduction of the title on the Nintendo console. For the visual quality we will come back, but for the nostalgia, everything is there.

A forgotten work of art … and never published

The game had it all: catchy rock music, dynamic gameplay, fights, and even the blue hedgehog’s racing mechanics. 13 years after the release of this monument, a designer who worked on the project, named Jonathan Cooper, came across an alternative version of the introduction, which unfortunately was never added to the title.

This is in 2D and has never gone beyond the stage of a simple cartoon. This snippet would normally have replaced the entire gameplay sequence included in the introduction, which would have rendered it completely in the animated cinematic format. The artist does not understand why Sega cut this part during the cut of the introduction.

The answer, only the studio knows it and he did not wish to share it for the moment. However, the fact that this anecdote resurfaces makes us think that a remake of this opus would be welcome on our modern consoles, the Nintendo Switch being the console of choice for family games in this genre.
