2.5 million NFT stolen from Bored Apes in Instagram hack

There are only a few days left for the launch of Otherside, the metaverse of the NFT firm Bored Ape Yacht Club. Last Monday, a post on the official Instagram profile of Bored Apes invited users to participate in an Airdrop to get a free land on Other side. Last Monday, many Instagram users saw a post on the official Bored Ape Yacht Club profile inviting them to participate in a Otherside Airdrop. They just had to enter a URL and connect their Ethereum wallets to receive their first land within the metaverse. Many did not think twice and not only participated, but also sent the link to private Discord groups so that more users could take advantage of the gift. What not many realized is that it was a fraud: someone had managed to hack Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Instagram account to make the post. On the other hand, the URL was fake, but it was a perfect clone of the original ape web.

The result of all this has been quite catastrophic. By accepting the contract, users inadvertently authorized all assets in their Ethereum accounts to be transferred to a wallet controlled by the attacker. At the moment, Bored Ape Yacht Club knows absolutely nothing about the attackers. For now, the Bored Ape Yacht Club team has no plans to delay the launch of Otherside. Apparently the official release will be this Saturday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. Spanish time.
