20% of Spanish companies operate mostly in the cloud

The study by the analysis firm Penteo, sponsored by the Spanish subsidiary of Syntax, highlights that the infrastructure as a service market (IaaSby its acronym in English) has entered a maturity stage from the point of view of supply and demand.

The research confirms that providers have a mature offer for all types of companies and needs, with services that are sufficiently developed and accessible, which means that the value and differentiation they offer is transferred to cloud management, mainly to administration of the environments of hybrid or multicloud scenarios, and the capacity to develop and manage platforms and software as a service.

On the demand side, the white paper shows a scenario in which practically all Spanish organizations are aware of cloud services and their possibilities. Their data indicates that 34% of business processes are executed in the cloud, which represents an increase in relation to the 2019 data, which stood at 28%. In addition, the volume of companies that run more than 20% of their processes in the cloud has also increased from 44% to 67% today, which confirms a strong traction in the market.

The perception of the benefits is clear

Companies that use cloud services have a feeling of satisfaction with technology, and acknowledge having achieved the benefits they expected at the time of hiring. These include the flexibility to adapt to business requirements and costs, as well as advantages in terms of continuity and resilience.

Alex Morales, Pentheus Senior Analyst, “This is a clear sign of maturity, both from the point of view of supply with solid products, services and companies, as well as from the demand that understands the real value of technology, its purpose and knows how to apply it properly to their needs.”

cloud strategies

Although the importance that companies give to the cloud is constantly increasing, the document, entitled “Successful Methodology for Migrations to the Cloud”, indicates that 29% of companies do not have a defined cloud strategy. For this reason, he warns that it is necessary to obtain the expected advantages of the model and reduce exposure to risks because, without a defined and communicated plan, the result is the creation of technological silos, implementations of non-standard solutions, non-optimized costs and increased exposure to risk from poorly configured environments.

To avoid this, it is important to have specialized implementers that can guide organizations by eliminating risks and uncertainties. At this point, the study indicates that the main attributes that lead companies to opt for one cloud integrator or another are their experience, knowledge and technical capabilities, an issue mentioned by 100% of the companies surveyed.

Taking into account the progression of the adoption of the hybrid model, this implies that providers must have a high level of knowledge, certification of hyperscalars, of their own infrastructures if they have them, and of their services. In addition, solvency must be transferred to the entire catalog of services (Definition of strategy and roadmap; infrastructure migration projects; application migration projects; operation and maintenance), complemented with intellectual property and own assets.

In this sense, Quim Alfaro, Syntax global cloud consulting director, underlines that “Intensive migration preparation is crucial to the success of any cloud strategy as it sets the course, and that requires operational and methodological expertise. At Syntax, we have this capacity and, with our advisory services, we transfer it to our clients, mainly those who operate SAP systems on AWS, two technologies in which we are leaders».

The second aspect, which they consider essential and which traditionally appears as a determining factor, is data security, cited by 83% of companies. “The transfer of loads to the cloud generates legal and regulatory concerns, so organizations look for providers that can cover the specific compliance of the sector and geography in which they operate”concludes the Pentheus expert.
