36.5% of Spanish e-commerce uses sustainable shipments of their products

In 2015, the United Nations Organization approved the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to create the roadmap to improve the lives of many people at a social, economic and environmental level before 2030.

In terms of sustainability, according to the last block of the survey carried out by the Packlink platform, in order to leave its mark on the environment and in the fight for global sustainability, 46% of Spanish e-commerce has changed the packaging of its products, in the last five years, to reduce the carbon footprint emitted. A figure that places Spain below the United Kingdom (51.9%), but which demonstrates an environmental commitment of Spanish e-commerce higher than that of Germany (45.6%), France (45.4%) and Italy (41%).

The study also indicates that 39.2% of Spaniards consider recyclable packages as the most sustainable option to implement in your business, above sustainable packaging and filling materials (35.5%), sustainable shipping services (20%) and greener products for sale (5.4%).

Packaging alternatives and sustainable transport

The new consumption habits developed during and after the pandemic are here to stay and are associated with environmental preservation. The packaging or product packaging It has become one of the most relevant aspects in this consumption model, which is increasingly in demand by customers and which the employer makes available to them more often.

For this reason, in Spain, 36.5% of companies have sustainable alternatives, such as recycled paper in the filling of reusable packages or bags for the shipment of products, a figure that is around the average among European countries. In Italy and the United Kingdom, 41.9% and 40.2% of e-commerce uses sustainable alternatives to ship their products, well above Germany (26.2%) and France (25.7%) .

Likewise, with regard to transport, most European e-commerce would choose the type of transport depending on the sustainability of its services. Highlighting Spain with 70% of respondents and Italy with 67.6% of respondents.

“These sustainable alternatives for shipping products place Spain as one of the countries in Europe and the world with the most responsibility in terms of sustainability. It is no longer just a matter of adapting to these new consumption habits, but also of meeting needs in the fight for the environment and increasing the social responsibility of caring for our planet”, points out Noelia Lázaro, director of Marketing at Packlink.
