Just a few months ago we were all celebrating the premiere of the new Netflix series based on Capcon video games -one of those franchises that has been entertaining us for more than two decades- when, once the month of August is over, some very bad news arrives around Her future: there will be no more seasons of resident Evil. A decision of the platform that, curiously, does not seem to have saddened the fans of these great survival-horror.
So with your permission, we are going to analyze the reasons that may have led Netflix to completely cancel the series and that the possibility of receiving new seasons vanishes forever. Which means, effectively, that we will be left wanting to know what has happened in this parallel television world of resident Evil.
Where is Albert Wesker?
The first blow was taken by the fans with one of the key characters in the games: Albert Wesker, who is played by the actor Lance Reddick and who did not connect too well with the idea that the fans had in mind. And if we add to that the showrunner of the series recognized that he never wanted to bring to fiction the same character from the video games… well, why do we want more.
Where are the games?
Although they boasted of maintaining the chronology of many events that occurred in the video game saga, in the end the reflection of these in the series is conspicuous by its absence. That bothered the fans of the saga who, whether those responsible for the fiction wanted it or not, almost all of them were going to arrive from the fanbase of the Capcom franchise and with a very clear and preconceived idea of what they wanted to see.
Where is the story?
Many of the fans who went to Netflix to watch the series from the first minute agree that the story was unable to hook viewers, to keep them in suspense and generate that desire to continue watching it and hope that the universe would expand based on the material of the games. On the contrary, each of its chapters becomes a gibberish that mixes past and present in such a way that neither of the two scenarios manages to keep us well attached to the plot. a pity
Where is Lady Dimitrescu?
One of the most acclaimed characters from the latest installment of the video game, Resident Evil VIII(age), does not appear in the plot of the first season on Netflix although the showrunner had already talked about the possibility of doing it in the future. Unfortunately, in the end we will not get to see it due to the platform’s plans to cancel Resident Evil.
Where are the spectators?
Although all the above reasons can be seen as simple circumstantial signs of an adaptation work far removed from the original product, surely what has weighed the most in Netflix’s decision to end with resident Evil after a single season is that has not reached the minimum required audience for an original product as far as viewings are concerned. And if, in addition to the figures, we have such fierce criticism from all those who have seen it, fans and non-fans alike… well, it’s better to dedicate your efforts (financial and work) to another more profitable story or project.
