54% of Spaniards are unaware of the metaverse, according to a study

The pandemic has changed many things, especially the way we relate to each other and consume. In this context, the irruption of the metaverse It is one of the great novelties of recent years.

To find out in detail how we are adapting to this new world, the consulting firm Marco has prepared its second ‘Framework Study: Consumption Habits Post COVID-19 II‘, through which it has surveyed more than 8,200 people from six countries on the European continent (Spain, Germany, France, Portugal, Italy and the United Kingdom) to understand the level of knowledge about the metaverse and the uses that are put to it. is giving today.

The study carried out by the consultancy shows that only 46% of Spaniards know the metaverse, although this places it in second place among the countries surveyed on the European continent, only behind the United Kingdom (49%). The metaverse is mostly known in Spain by men (51%), compared to women (39%), although age also plays a fundamental role in this sector, since it is best known by young people between 18 and 25 years old (65%). As age increases, their knowledge is less, being known by 44% of Spaniards between 26 and 65 years of age and by only 24% of those over 65 years of age.

In addition, the salary range also plays a key role, since it is known by the 36% of Spaniards who earn less than 20,000 euros, increasing the figure to 49% of those who earn between 20,000 and 60,000 euros, reaching 58% of Spaniards who earn more than 60,000 euros per year. This can translate into the need to invest in key gadgets and technology to be able to interact with the metaverse.

Video games, concerts and shopping

As for the uses given to the metaverse, video games stand out mostly. 53% of Spanish men who know the metaverse use it for this purpose, followed far behind by concerts, with 18%.

On the part of women, 37% use it for video games, followed by purchases, with another 25%. It is important to note that Spain is the country of those surveyed on the European continent that most uses the metaverse for topics related to education (17%), followed by Italy (14%) and Germany (13%).

In short, the study makes it clear that the pandemic has brought important changes to our society that are here to stay, especially in terms of the acceleration in adapting to the digital world. The metaverse is going to be a revolution both for the information consumption enough to relate to each other and, although more than half of Spaniards do not know this new world, we are facing a booming phenomenon that we will not stop hearing more and more about in the coming years.
