6 Secrets Every Windows User Should Know

Windows has a “God Mode”

The first of the secrets that we are going to discover is the well-known «God Mode». This mode is a utility, hidden within Windows, that allows us to access a large number of options and settings that would otherwise be difficult to find. Given the danger that this mode has for inexperienced users, Microsoft hides it by default in the operating system. But we can unlock it without problems like this:

We simply need to right-click on any directory (for example, on the desktop) and create a new folder. And, to this folder, we simply have to give it the following name:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

We can see how the folder icon automatically changes. And, upon entering, we can find all kinds of secret functions and settings.

We can unlock a “maximum performance” mode

By default, Microsoft maintains a balance between performance and consumption. And this, although it is fine for most users, means that the system does not take advantage of 100% of the potential of the PC’s hardware. If we do not mind that the computer spends a little more energy, it is possible to unlock the «Ultimate Performance» mode, or «Maximum performance».

With this mode, the computer is always ready to perform at 100%, which allows us, for example, that the PC runs faster, and that, if we use the PC to play, we have more FPS. To activate it, we just have to open a CMD window, with administrator permissions, and execute the following in it:

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

A secret tool allows you to save space

Windows 10 introduced a new tool that has been talked about very little: compact.exe. This tool uses a series of advanced algorithms to compress games, programs and other types of folders on the PC with hardly any impact on system performance. In this way we can save a considerable amount of disk space without having to sacrifice anything in terms of performance.

Although we can use this tool from CMD, we recommend using an interface that allows us to use it much more easily: CompactGUI. Once you try it, you won’t be able to live without it.

the secret menu

Surely we all know the Windows start menu, one of the most legendary features of this OS. But what we probably don’t know is that, within this menu, there is a second secret menu that allows us to quickly access certain advanced system functions and tools.

To access it, we simply have to use the Windows + X keyboard shortcut, or right-click on the start button. And from it we can access all the tools that we have just seen.

Show desktop with one click

If we have ever found that, suddenly, we have the screen full of windows, we do not have to minimize them one by one to get to the desktop. Windows has a hidden button that allows us, with a single click, to show the desktop to leave all the windows in the background. This secret button can be found in the right corner of the taskbar.

show windows desktop

Simply with a click there we can hide all the open windows and directly see our desktop.

Shake to minimize

Finally, similar to the previous one, Windows has another secret that will be very useful when we have many windows open. If what we want is to minimize everything that we have open on the desktop, except for one window, we only have to take that window, click on it, and shake it.

We will automatically see how all the other windows are minimized, but the one we have selected remains in the foreground.
