While we have known for years the dangers of using a smartphone while driving, a large majority of young people do not hesitate to consult it while being on the road. According to a Macif survey, 65% admit to regularly taking out their phone when driving. A clear sign of addiction, according to experts.
No need to be an ostrich: despite the risks (and the ban), many motorists regularly consult their smartphones while driving. On average, they will even touch it 41 times in one hour. The youngest populations being the most consuming of this device, they are particularly quick to take out their smartphone while driving.
Indeed, according to the Macif addiction barometer, 65% of French people between the ages of 16 and 30 admit to having used their smartphone while driving a car, motorbike, scooter or bicycle. The uses are multiple: to make a call of course, but also to send and read a message, consult social networks, participate in a meeting for work and even watch a film or a series and play games.

Also, men are more likely (70%) to pull out their phone while driving than women (61%). “It’s better without hands because you can watch the road at the same time as the message. We can recover. It’s also a matter of habit, I think.”explains Mathieu, a cyclist in his thirties, to our colleagues from BFM TV, even if he concedes that he “It’s better not to do it in the middle of lots of cars but it’s done”.
For Lilâ Le Bas, president of the National Union of Students of France (UNEF), “there is a real addiction to screens, this is what this third edition of the barometer shows. We see that this is widespread behavior”. According to her, “pThe more we adopt the right behaviors young, the more we keep them in the long term ». Remember that any driver using their smartphone while driving risks having their license suspended.
