99.9% of American doctors don’t see the Apple Watch as a medical device

Apple Watch Sensor

The Apple Watch is a device that over the years is helping people with heart problems and the like a lot. In fact, it is possible to count the cases in which it is narrated that thanks to the sensors and predictions of the watch, certain heart ailments have been caught in time that could otherwise have ended the life of that user of the watch. However, all this does not make US doctors trust this device. According to certain studies, 99.9% of them would not use the Apple Watch for follow-up or medical treatment. However, it is being used for research and with very good results.

Although we have several cases of people who have saved their lives thanks to the sensors of the Apple Watch, clinical psychologist Michael Breus says that 99.9% of medical professionals are still not very in favor of its use in the medical field. In a new article from The Financial Times, several physicians and others in the medical field have detailed the difficulties of incorporating the Apple Watch into daily patient care. Some said that a future where the Apple Watch actually improves user health on a larger scale is still a long way off.

Now, in the field of research, it does seem that the Apple Watch has its fans. According to the CDC, chronic diseases are the main item of the 3.8 trillion dollars that was spent in the United States on medical care in the United States. They can usually be prevented through exercise, diet, and early detection. It is in the field of research and monitoring where it can be useful. For example:

  • Shruthi Mahalingaiah, a Harvard researcher, has been using several generations of the Apple Watch to track the ovulation cycle of 70,000 women in a large study.
  • Dr. Richard Milani, vice president of cardiology at Ochsner Health, has been using the Apple Watch, among others, to monitor data points from thousands of patents and use artificial intelligence to predict outcomes and determine which people are most likely to fall ill.

We will have to keep waiting for doctors to use the Apple Watch in a more direct field than research. This will help make the former come true.
