CES is not only where new products for consumer electronics and thus for PC hardware are introduced, but also for concepts for the future. This is the case of Alienware and its Nyx concept, which seeks to bring the advantages of Cloud Gaming, but locally to what they have called Plex Gaming. What does it consist of?
Cloud Gaming is one of the future potentials in terms of video games that will grow the most in the coming years. What happens if we apply this concept within a local network where the server is not located in a remote place, but in our own home?
This is Alienware Nyx, the Cloud Gaming from home
Alienware, Dell’s specialized gaming brand, has presented a new concept that they have dubbed Nyx, a server that has been designed for home gaming and that we could therefore define as a Game Server. Where does it stand out? In the fact that is capable of running up to 4 simultaneous games at the same time thanks to its enormous power, which can transmit to up to 4 different screens or equipment in its range.
The advantage of this system is that it allows us to play our games from anywhere in our home and in any way we want, from a laptop to a smartphone. Nevertheless, we do not know what the technical specifications are in terms of processor, graphics card, RAM and other components. When it comes to transmitting the information from the server to the screen, it does not differ much from ideas like Steam Link, but with a higher base raw power.
Will this concept see the light? We really don’t think so, since to be able to run multiple games at the same time you need very powerful hardware or cut the image quality of the games streamed even if it is on the local network. In addition, very few people will want to have a high-powered server at home when a Gaming PC is more than enough for them.
Will we finally see Alienware UFO?
With the arrival of the Steam Deck and rival systems like the Aya Neo, it is more than possible that Dell will finally launch its Alienware UFO concept. A concept similar to that of the Nintendo Switch that was presented just at CES last year, however, never translated into a product that we could buy.
Well, this could change, at least as far as the control knob is, since in several of the Nyx images it has been possible to see at least the same control knob. Which indicates that from Alienware and after seeing the demand for Valve’s hardware, they could add their own gaming PC in the form of a portable console. So it is possible that we see both products in a combined way. We don’t see much of a future for Nyx as a commercial product, but we hope that at least an updated Alienware UFO will be one more option to choose.
