Binance, the famous wallet and cryptocurrency exchange platform was the victim of a historic hack this Friday, October 7. The hacker indeed left with a record loot of 580 million euros. This is the most prolific hack in history, just ahead of the Ronin blockchain hack earlier this year.

Remember, in March 2022, a hacker manages to steal 560 million euros from the Ronin blockchain, on which the very popular Axie Infinity is based, all thanks to a simple (but fake) job offer. It only took a few months for a new peak to be reached. The victim this time is Binance, a benchmark platform in the world of cryptocurrencies and which offers wallet and exchange services.
Binance victim of an unprecedented hack
As Changpeng Zhao, CEO of Binance, explains, a security breach allowed the hacker to infiltrate and steal 2 million BNB, the platform’s official cryptocurrency. According to the current price of the digital currency, this is equivalent to just over 580 million euros. In the space of a few minutes, the hacker managed to make two transfers to his own wallet of 1 million BNB each.
