What is long exposure?

Long exposure photography is one that is capable of capture movement in an image. In traditional cameras it is achieved through keep the shutter open for a few seconds, however, on the iPhone you will have to use a specific shooting mode that we will explain later. The purpose of long exposure photography is to be able to capture movement, and that anyone who later sees this image understands that there is movement of some of the elements that make it up.

It is very typical to find images of this type in which it seems that the water of a river flows, it is also very common long exposure photographs in which many lines of light appear on a road, the result of capturing the movement of different cars that have passed through there. Follow these steps to achieve this effect with your iPhone

As we mentioned before, this type of images captured with a traditional camera are achieved by keeping the shutter open for a certain time. You can’t do that on the iPhone, however, if there is a shooting mode in which the device is for a few seconds capturing different photos, is the well-known way Live Photo, which is the one you will have to use to get long exposure photos with the iPhone.

When launching yourself with your iPhone to take this type of photograph you have to take into account a series of points that will mark the result of the same. The most important is that, when you get ready to take the picture, try to move the device as little as possible, for this you can help yourself by using a tripod, but really it will only be 3.4 seconds that you will have to keep the iPhone in the same position. Here are the steps to follow to take a long exposure photograph with the iPhone.

  1. Open the app Camera.
  2. Activate Live Photo by clicking on the icon at the top right of the screen.Activate Live Photo
  3. Focus what you want to photograph.
  4. Take the picture.

Once you have followed these steps, what you will have will be an image that you can view in Live Photo mode. However, these types of images can be edited and adopted different effects of having had the iPhone shooting for several seconds. In order to access these effects, you just have to follow the following steps.

  1. Access the Gallery from your iPhone.
  2. Click on the photo you just took.
  3. Swipe up so that the different options are displayed.
  4. Browse through the effects and click on “Long exposition”.
