Huawei presents the new version of its MateBook X Pro, an elegant, very thin and very versatile ultraportable.

On the occasion of MWC 2022, Huawei unveiled several very exciting new features. On the program: the new version of its ultraportable MateBook X Pro, which looks quite sensational.

Let’s start with the MateBook X Pro. Visually, it must be admitted that it has its little effect, with its elegant curves and its seemingly impeccable finishes. It is also exceptionally thin and light. Judge for yourself: this MateBook only measures 15.5mm thick at the hinge! A figure that places it beyond certain references in the 14” segment such as the Specter x360 14 from HP, and exactly at the level of the MacBook Pro M1.

A slab that promises to be sublime

It is also rather light, with 1.38kg on the scale. For comparison, the MacBook Air M1 is only slightly lighter at 1.29 kg. And these are not the only points on which Huawei’s proposal seems to be inspired by Apple’s. The Chinese manufacturer seems to have made a real effort on the size of the screen, with a slab/edge ratio of 92.5%!

The slab itself is not left out either. This MateBook X Pro has a touch screen in 3120×2080 (3:2) with TÜV Rheinland certification as the icing on the cake. And the latter is not the only attention paid to colorimetry. Huawei indicates that its device has a hardware-based calibration systemprobably in the form of an as yet undisclosed chip.

On the front, there is a couple microphone – HD webcam, which seems to be camouflaged remarkably well in the upper border of 6 mm. This will also serve as the basis for a new feature called Free Touch Creative Gestures. It makes it possible to trigger certain machine commands when a hand gesture is detected. For example, closing your fist in front of the webcam allows you to take a screenshot.

No Alder Lake CPU… yet

This model will be equipped with an 11th generation Rocket Lake processor, in this case the Core i7-1195G7. It will be supported by the integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU. Everything will be served by 16 GB of LPDDR4x memory and a 1T M.2 SSD. Note that the manufacturer could soon update this model to equip it with a 12th generation Alder Lake processor. For those who would concretely benefit from this performance bonus, it could therefore be worth waiting a little longer.

On the other hand, we know that Huawei has completely revised its internal cooling system. From now on, the chassis is perforated with three different air intakes which will supply two fans and a new dissipator based on a vapor chamber. The manufacturer claims that the model dissipates heat twice as well as its predecessor.

In terms of connectivity, it’s hard to expect a lot from such a thin device. However, there is something to be pleasantly surprised about. Indeed, this MateBook has 4 multifunction USB-C ports. The audio material has also been completely revised. There are now six different speakers, powered by proprietary technology that allows “reconstructing the sound space”.

In terms of recharging, we expected very high speeds, in the purest tradition of Chinese devices of recent years. And we were not disappointed. Its charger, a small discreet brick of barely 180 g, is capable of outputting 90 W in order to recover 3 hours of use in barely 15 minutes. It is also possible to recharge a smartphone up to 50W simultaneously. Note also the overall TDP of the device, announced at 30W.

The MateBook X Pro 2022 will be marketed at a price of 1899€. The availability date, however, remains unknown.
