a price and a release date for the connected glasses

Presented at the Inno Day at the end of 2001, the Air Glass glasses finally find a release date and a price. Unfortunately, they are only available in China.

During its last Inno Day, Oppo stocked up on new technologies. Some are integrated into the brand’s products this year, such as the MariSilicon X chip in the Find X5. The manufacturer has also announced augmented reality connected glasses, the Air Glass. Inspired by Google Glass, Oppo’s glasses rely on “assisted” reality to take up the torch and know a better fate than the Google project.

Two months after this announcement, the firm confirms that the Oppo Air Glass are arriving in China. They will be available for purchase from March 3 at a price of 4,999 yuan, or approximately 708 euros. Two colors (silver and black) will be offered and it will be possible to customize the frame with kits. To seduce, Oppo relies on four characteristics: beauty, lightness, universality and utility. These glasses hope to become “the third screen” users, after the smartphone and the connected watch. Two areas in which the Chinese group has positioned itself with its Find X5 Pro or its Watch Free.

A launch in China from March

Oppo’s project takes the form of a connected monocle that attaches to the branch of a spectacle frame. There is a Spark micro-projector with micro-LEDs on 5 glass lenses. An extremely compact projection solution, the volume of which does not exceed 0.5 cm³. The Air Glass claim an average brightness of 1,400 nits with two display modes: 16 or 256 levels of gray. These connected glasses weigh around 30 grams and Oppo evokes a comfort similar to that of a pair of classic glasses. Inside, they have a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor.

The brand also relies on a real-time translation function that supports Chinese-English translation. In the future, Oppo plans to add support for Japanese and Korean. Finally, the autonomy reaches 3 hours in active use and 40 hours in standby.

Oppo Air Glass, will they be released in France?

The arrival of Air Glass in China confirms Oppo’s ambitions in the field of augmented reality. The manufacturer is not behind schedule, but it is not yet known if these alternatives to Googles Glass will arrive in France. For now, Oppo simply explains that the Air Glass are coming to China first.
