Activision-Blizzard shareholders say YES to Microsoft

On January 18 of this year, the company today led by Satya Nadella surprised us with an important announcement. The purchase intention by almost 70,000 million of the largest independent video game publisher in the world. Well, the Activision-Blizzard shareholders have given the OK to Microsoft. What has been the final price of the share and what is expected in the coming months?

One way to analyze any company is to look at its resources, processes and motivations. The first thing is human, technological and economic capital. The second is what they know how to do, that is, how they transform those resources into products and services. The third is the ethics of the company and, therefore, its policies. Even within the same sector there is disparity in these three elements. So some will be stronger at one point and others at another.

Well, in the market for video game consoles, one of the weak points of Redmond compared to its Japanese rivals has been its internal video game development studios until recently. The key is that the games they make, being exclusive to their platform, serve to increase sales. Microsoft’s problem? Their teams were not up to the task and this has led them to first buy Bethesda for 7 billion dollars and then make a 68 billion purchase offer on Activision-Blizzard. Which has just been approved by shareholders.

Activision-Blizzard shareholders give Microsoft the go-ahead

There is no doubt that this is the purchase of the decade and the biggest purchase ever made in the world of video gamesyes And it is that the purchase proposal, for 68,000 million dollars, the largest video game publisher by Microsoft, took us by surprise. However, we still had to see approval from both the shareholders and the regulatory commission.

Activision-Blizzard Shareholders Xbox Microsoft

Well, while we wait for the United States Trade Commission, the FTC, to approve the agreement definitively. The shareholders have already done so by agreeing on a final price of $95 per share.. Although the entire purchase process is expected to end in June 2023right at the end of the next fiscal year. Until then, Activision-Blizzard-King will not be Microsoft. So it will remain independent for more than a year. So with both parties in agreement now all that remains is to wait for the regulation to approve it.

This affects us computer users little, due to the importance of gaming on PC for both companies. However, on consoles and outside of projects already released and already announced before completing the purchase. Which translates to Xbox exclusivity for those games published after the purchase is complete. Activision-Blizzard is the owner of powerful intellectual properties such as Call of Duty, warcraft, Devil and the popular on mobile candy crush. Which will reinforce the exclusive portfolio of Microsoft consoles and services from 2023.
