Adobe Premiere Pro 22.2 improves HEVC performance with NVIDIA and Intel GPUs

The release of the Adobe Premiere Pro 22.2 update has brought important optimizations that, as we indicate in the title, are focused on NVIDIA and Intel GPUs. The most important novelty we have in the new 10-bit HEVC video encoder with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, as Adobe has achieved a very large performance improvement.

In the performance graphs that Adobe has shared, we can see that using an Intel Xeon processor at 2.1 GHz, 32 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 graphics card, the performance has multiplied exponentially in Adobe Premiere Pro 22.2. However, the most interesting thing comes in the second graph, and it is that the performance improvement when using the integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU of an Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor so impressive that it is even difficult to believe.

For example, the export time in UHD Complex was, with a Quadro RX 5000 graphics card, 153 milliseconds under Adobe Premiere Pro 22.1. With Adobe Premiere Pro 22.2, that time is reduced to 37 milliseconds. On the other hand, with the Intel Iris Xe GPU that mounts the Intel Core i7-1165G7, the time required to perform the same export was 719 milliseconds with Adobe Premiere Pro 22.1, while with Adobe Premiere Pro 22.2 it has dropped to 88 milliseconds.

But that is not all. Adobe has also given other performance data in tests such as the speech to text transcription, in which we can see a remarkable jump. On the other hand, Adobe Premiere Pro 22.2 also introduces a new technology in Auto Tone, which applies smart color corrections in the Lumetri Color panel. The Auto Tone settings are reflected in the Lumetri sliders to make it easier for us to adjust the results, and also to make it easier for us to become familiar with these tools.

Adobe has achieved such significant leaps in performance by using advanced encoding capabilities at the hardware level. In this regard, Adobe has introduced support for Intel Quick Sync for Premiere and Media Encoder, and as we see this has made a big difference in terms of performance. For NVIDIA graphics card users, NVIDIA Studio drivers has played a key role, as expected.
