Good news for console strategy game fans, Microsoft has finally adapted Age of Empire 2 Definitive Edition on Xbox, allowing a whole new audience to discover or rediscover the legendary title.
Since the remastered version of Age of Empire 2 was released in 2019, gamers have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Microsoft’s old title on its consoles. Age of Empire 2 Definitive Edition is coming straight to Game Pass on Xbox, but is also available for purchase for non-subscribers.
In total, these are over 200 hours of gameplay and over 1000 years of history await you, and this without ever leaving your sofa. Age of Empire 2 Definitive Edition lets you take control of 35 civilizations (42 in multiplayer) on 83 different maps, and during 34 single player campaigns and 7 cooperative campaigns.

Microsoft has adjusted gameplay for controllers
Obviously, Microsoft had to adapt the controls to the Xbox controllers, which is not easy at all for these RTS (real-time strategy) type games. The interface has therefore been redesigned to become more readable. Microsoft also announces that it has created shortcuts on the directional cross, but also control wheels.
To simplify gameplay and let you focus on your armies, Microsoft has decided toautomate villagersand to propose contextual commands depending on the location. For beginners who are not used to playing this type of game with a controller, the company also announces that it has created new tutorials and learning resources specifically for controller play.
Fortunately, the Xbox being compatible with keyboards and mice, you can also connect your own peripherals to find an experience close to the PC. The title is also playable via the Xbox Cloud Gaming (in Beta), to continue to develop his empire far from his console or his PC. The title is now available on your Xbox Series X and S consoles.
