Age of Empires IV PC Requirements: Will work on virtually any PC

Relic Entertainment and World’s Edge have finally confirmed the requirements for Age of Empires IV, one of the most anticipated games of this year, which is scheduled to launch tomorrow, October 28. It will be available for Xbox One, Xbox Series S-Series X, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

For the development of the fourth installment of the well-known real-time strategy (RTS) franchise, the Essence Engine 5.0, its own graphics engine that seems to have received a significant dose of optimization, since as we are going to see below, the Age of Empires IV requirements are quite contained.

However, it is important to keep in mind that we will need Windows 10 or Windows 11 to be able to move the game, and that although the Age of Empires IV requirements indicate that we will need 50 GB of free space, in reality we will need 93 GB if we decide to download it from the Microsoft Store.

Age of Empires IV Requirements: Minimum

This is the minimum level to be able to run the game. We can’t expect a good experience, but it may be acceptable.

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 as the operating system.
  • Ryzen 5 2400G APU or Intel Core i5-6300U CPU (two cores and four threads minimum).
  • 8 GB of RAM.
  • Radeon RX Vega 11 or Intel HD 520 GPU.
  • 50 GB of free space.

The CPU and GPU equivalences are not right, as the Ryzen 5 2400G APU is much more powerful than the Intel Core i5-6300U, both at the CPU and integrated GPU level. The closest would be a Athlon 300GE APU.

Age of Empires IV Requirements: Low Quality

With this level we could play it in 1080p and low quality maintaining good fluency, at least in theory.

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 as the operating system.
  • Ryzen 3 1300X or Intel Core i5-4460T CPU (Quad Core).
  • 8 GB of RAM.
  • Radeon HD 7950 or GTX 760 GPU with 2GB.
  • 50 GB of free space.

There is no serious error in the equivalences.

Age of Empires IV Requirements: Recommended

In this case, we can expect good 1080p performance with high quality, and the requirements are not high at all, as we can see.

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 as the operating system.
  • Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400 CPU (six cores).
  • 16 GB of RAM.
  • Radeon RX 570 or GTX 970 GPU with 4GB.
  • 50 GB of free space.

There are also no serious equivalency errors, although the Ryzen 5 2600 has six cores and twelve threads, while the Intel Core i5-8400 adds 6 cores and 6 threads.

Age of Empires IV Requirements: Ideal

With this configuration we should be able to play it without problems in high resolution (1440p or 2160p) and very high quality.

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 as the operating system.
  • Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i7-9700 CPU (six cores and twelve threads or eight cores and eight threads).
  • 16 GB of RAM.
  • Radeon RX 5700 XT or RTX 2070 GPU with 8GB.
  • 50 GB of free space.

In this case there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The closest equivalency to the Ryzen 5 3600 would be the Core i7-8700, which has six cores and twelve threads. On the other hand, the RX 5700 XT is a bit more powerful than the RTX 2070.

It goes without saying that, if you have a team higher than the configurations listed in the Age of Empires IV requirements, you can play it in 4K smoothly.

I am extremely curious to see how the game works with the minimum configuration that the developers have listed, although I imagine it will only be viable in resolutions lower than 1080p and low quality, and that in terms of fluency it could be quite fair. To really enjoy this game, the ideal is to reach the recommended level, although I suspect that if we stay a little below we will not have problems either.
