To learn more about the brand, while we analyze this monitor, we have taken the opportunity to interview César Reyes Acosta, Product Manager at COC / MMD Monitors & Displays. Although it may seem to us that there are many brands completing the gamer market, there is still room for innovation. As César Reyes has told us, «The gamer market continues to grow year after year and it is natural that new brands want to enter the segment. For us, AGON by AOC, this is an additional motivation to continue improving our products and meeting the expectations of all our customers. Given the greater supply, it is essential for us that buying a monitor is something easy. That is why we have created our segmentation AOC Gaming, AGON and AGON PRO, where gamers can find a monitor with excellent features based on their budget: AOC GAMING for beginner gamers, AGON for competitive gamers and AGON PRO for esports enthusiasts and professional gamers. of e-sports.”

This AGON model is one of the most contained and is part of the AGON PRO range. This bed is defined as follows, according to César Reyes. «In AGON PRO, our new range of AGON by AOC, we seek to implement the latest technologies in such a way that the gamer achieves maximum performance and immersion. In this sense, in AGON PRO we have implemented technologies such as MiniLED, G-Sync Ultimate, and resolutions such as UHD@144Hz, QHD@240Hz and FHD@360Hz. This allows for the best refresh rates and an incredible HDR experience. Additionally, we want the gamer to have a monitor with excellent design and extra features such as USB-C, USB Hub and KVM, DTS equalized speakers and much more.”

The monitors in this range are not for everyone and are intended for those who can really invest money in having the best possible equipment to play. «Since our AGON PRO portfolio implements the latest technologies and greater value for gamers, we have positioned this range in the medium/high segment. As mentioned above, we have an extensive portfolio for all gamers and budgets with AOC Gaming, AGON and AGON PRO.” Explains Cesar Reyes.

The AGON AG273QX is 27 inches which, thanks to its design that seeks to reduce the frames to a minimum, gives us a greater feeling of spaciousness. It does not give up the powerful bases that colonize all gaming monitors. In the case of the AG273QX we have a steel base that causes the monitor and the base to weigh 7.8 kilos. Only the monitor has a weight of 5.08 kilos. The penalty also gives us a lot of play when it comes to adjusting the placement of the monitor, it is fully pivotable and has a tilt of -5/23, the height can be adjusted by 110 mm.

Although the base is large, it has an elevated design that allows, in case we want to place things under it, and thus have a little more space. Continuing with the monitor setup, in this case, the fact that it is a gaming model does not imply that it does not have VESA. If we do not want the base to take up space on our table, we can do without it and hang the monitor on the wall. It has always struck me how huge the bases of gaming monitors are that require more free space on the table and that there are some brands that do not include VESA support, forcing you to show off the base. In the case of the AGON, all the gaming monitors include the VESA support to be able to mount it on an arm or on the wall. «There are two main reasons. The bigger the size, the weight of the monitor is greater, therefore a larger base is incorporated. On the other hand, new regulations require that monitors have greater flexibility in the face of different movements, leading to a larger base size.” Caesar explains.

The AGON AG273QX does not do without the backlight FX that can be synchronized with other AOC devices and also has different types of lighting, from fixed, music rhythm or rainbow. In this lighting we can also control from the monitor’s own menu and it will also allow us to control the strength, if we want it to be more intense or softer. The lighting is located on the back of the monitor in a circle.

The four USB connectors of the monitor are located in the lower part, from there we can connect the devices or peripherals that we need.

The AGON AG273QX has a 165Hz refresh rate with sync technology Freesync Premium Pro. With a good graphics card, in our case an Nvidia GTX 1060, we have been able to play to its full potential, without cuts and without motion blur. With a resolution of 2560 x 1440, the Quad HD (QHD) display offers superior picture quality and sharper images that reveal the finest details. The large-screen 16:9 aspect ratio provides plenty of room to spread out and work, and also lets you enjoy games or movies in their original size.

1ms pixel response time means speed without sacrificing gameplay. We’ve been able to play with fast movements and spectacular transitions that run smoothly without the awkward ghosting.

AGON completes the AG273QX model with some integrated speakers that can save us space if we do not want to have an additional audio system.

Another detail that we have loved about this monitor is its small removable hooks that come out of the sides and that will allow us to hang the helmets and prevent them from going around the desk.

Finally, the AGON by AOC monitors include a G-Menu that allows you to get the most out of it. «The advantages are multiple. First, you can manage various operations from the monitor’s OSD, directly via software. At the same time you can control your monitor and all your AOC and AGON peripherals from just one application. You can record and manage macros, and control lighting effects. You can even synchronize all the lighting effects between your entire ecosystem: monitor and peripherals.” César Reyes told us.

Conclusions

AOC has hit the nail on the head with this new line. The AGON have everything a player needs and not only that, but it also adapts to their needs. Its quality and refresh rate is ideal. But beyond the game, the possibility of being able to hang it on the wall if we need it makes it a versatile monitor.

Starting at 500 euros of purchase price, these are monitors that are located between the upper mid-range. It could be said that AOC’s AGON are monitors for serious gamers. The AG273QX model is the most basic and costs €512.69, but it won’t leave a bad taste in your mouth if you’re looking for a content gaming space adjusted to your needs.
