all about the new Samsung tablets

Samsung has just unveiled its new tablets. The Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra are ready to compete with Apple’s iPads.

After several weeks of waiting, Samsung has finally presented its new Android tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 are three in number and succeed the Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+. As for the Galaxy S7 FE, it will wait a few more months before giving way. The Unpacked event is above all an opportunity for the South Korean manufacturer to confirm the rumors of the corridors. The Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+ and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra are three high-end models that confirm the return to the forefront of tablets. Despite a drop in sales in the fourth quarter, 2021 was a positive year for this sector. It will also continue to benefit from the progress of teleworking or distance education.

Based on this observation, Samsung has pulled out all the stops to offer us three tablets focused on productivity and performance.

Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra: a major rival for the iPad Pro

At the top of this new range, there is a promising Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Samsung’s new flagship tablet is equipped with a 14.6-inch Super AMOLED screen displaying a definition of 2,960 x 1,848 pixels, with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Beneath this XXL screen, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra can count on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flanked by 8 to 16 GB of RAM and 128 to 512 GB of storage. A microSD slot allows you to expand the storage space (up to 1 TB).

The photo part is not forgotten with the presence of a dual rear sensor of 13 and 6 megapixels. At the front, a notch accommodates two cameras with a main 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module. Note the presence of three microphones or the ability to film in 4K at 30 frames per second.

This muscular configuration is powered by an 11,200 mAh battery, compatible with 45 W wired fast charging. The premium tablet can support 5G (or 4G), 6E wifi or Bluetooth 5.2. There is also a fingerprint reader under the screen. This large tablet has dimensions of 208.6 x 326.4 x 5.5 mm, for a weight of 726 g (wifi) to 728 g (5G)

Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8+: ambitious little sisters

Samsung has decided to offer a complete range comprising three tablets. The Galaxy Tab S8 is the gateway to a resolutely high-end series. Like the Ultra variant, the tablet features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The powerful Qualcomm chip is coupled with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. If the need arises, there is the possibility of adding a microSD card up to 1 TB. One of the big differences between the three tablets is at the screen level.

More affordable, the Galaxy Tab S8 ignores OLED technology. It is content with an 11-inch LTPS screen (2,560x 1,600 pixels), always refreshed up to 120 Hz.

Even if the photo is not really the strong point of the tablets, Samsung has decided to integrate a dual sensor of 13 and 6 megapixels on the back. At the front, the manufacturer adds a 12-megapixel camera for video calls. It is possible to film up to 4K at 30 fps or to play content in very high quality. The audio part is not left out with four AKG speakers, which makes it a slate cut for multimedia content.

As rumors had announced, an 8,000 mAh battery is present. It is compatible with wired fast charging up to 45 W. On the software side, we find Android 12.

The orientation of Samsung’s latest product ensures compatibility with 5G in addition to 4G, 6th wifi and Bluetooth 5.2. The smallest of the new tablets has dimensions of 165.3 x 253.8 x 6.3 mm and weighs just over 500 grams (from 503 to 507 g depending on the version).

An OLED screen for the Tab S8+

The Galaxy Tab S8+ incorporates most of the characteristics of the “classic” Galaxy Tab S8. The main difference is in the screen and Samsung is not satisfied with a larger format. This version provides access to OLED technology, thanks to the presence of a 2,800 x 1,752 pixel Super AMOLED panel at 120 Hz. One more argument that comes with a larger battery (10,090 mAh ). Fast charging at 45 W is still present.

For the rest, this “+” version is identical to its little sister, notably with the presence of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Unsurprisingly, the presence of a larger screen makes the tablet more imposing (185 x 285 x 5, 7 mm for 567 to 572 g). Note, however, that it is thinner.

These three tablets are compatible with many accessories, including the S Pen stylus.

Price and availability

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 tablets are officially available today. The Galaxy Tab S8 is displayed from 769 euros while the Tab S8+ starts at 999 euros. Count a minimum of 1,219 euros for the Tab S8 Ultra.
