Alpine has just made an appointment with its fans on May 9, 2023 for the presentation of the A290_B. This new concept car offers a taste of what the brand’s electric city car will be based on the platform of the future Renault R5.
When taking power in 2021, the new boss of Alpine Laurent Rossi immediately put the dots on the i. The Dieppe brand will also take the turn of the electricnotably by launching in the coming years a compact SUV and above all an electric city car based on the platform of Renault’s future electric R5.
From what we know, it will be necessary to wait until 2024 to attend the official presentation of this mysterious model. Nevertheless, Alpine intends to give us a taste of it on May 9, 2023. On this date, the brand will lift the veil on its latest concept car: the A290_B.

Alpine gives a taste of its electric city car with the A290_B
We are not in front of an airliner, but an electric city car, contrary to what this obscure name suggests. According to the manufacturer, A obviously refers to Alpine, the 2 to the size of the vehicle, and the 90 to all the “Life Style” oriented models of the brand. As for the B concludes this surname, we could replace it with Beta. Logical when talking about a concept car.
Thanks to the “dark” teaser shared by Alpine, we notice that the presence of additional projectors in height, in the style of the R5 rallye. No wonder when you know that this Alpine city car will be based on the same platform as Renault’s future R5, namely the CMF-BEV platform.
By relying on an already existing platform, Alpine should be able to maintain reasonable production and sales prices. However, do not expect miracles either. For good reason, this A290 will carry a 220 hp electric motor developed from that of the Mégane e-Tech. And when you know that a Zoé e-Tech equipped with an 80 kW (108 hp) R110 engine is trading from €35,100, it is hard to see how this Alpine city car could be priced below €40,000.
