AMD 4800S, a desktop kit derived from Xbox consoles

AMD 4800S is a new development of the series’Desktop Kit‘posted by the guys from Videocardz. A compact desktop personal computer creation board that is believed to reuse the semi-custom chip created for Microsoft’s latest Xbox consoles.

If you remember, AMD reused the base of the SoC that it had created for the Play Station 5 in the 4700S model. A kit that it offers to manufacturers and that we have seen in developments such as the MINISFORUM EliteMini CR50.

The AMD 4800S follows that same line, although improved with news of interest. The plate is a Micro-ATX, larger than the Mini-ATX in the 4700S and has a slot PCI-Express 4.0 for discrete GPUs. While the 4700S supports mid-range graphics, the new kit will be compatible with a higher-end GPU like the Radeon RX 6600.

It is not known if AMD will mount a CPU with higher performance than the Ryzen 4700S, a development manufactured in 7 nm processes with 8 cores and 16 threads native processing and working frequencies of up to 3.2 GHz. Generally, the RAM memory is soldered in this type of plates and offers 16 Gbytes. The internal hardware can be customized based on M.2 PCIe NVMe solid state drives.

The Videocardz leaked board has been developed by MSI and includes a PowerColor TUL graph based on the aforementioned Radeon RX 6600. Includes a fan similar to the one Wraith Stealth Ryzen processor official, although other third-party coolers compatible with the AM4 socket may be used.

The connectivity would be quite complete, with HDMI and Display Port video outputs; Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi; multiple USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Gen 1 ports; those for audio, line in / out, and mic in, plus power input.

Although they may be discarded chips from those manufactured for the latest Xbox, this AMD 4800S desktop kit is not without interest to motorize consumer computer desks, offices or living rooms for uses such as home theater in a very small size, little larger than a mini-PC. Considering the previous version, we can expect prices from the manufacturers that use it from $ 300 in configurations (without the dedicated GPU that we see in this kit) that includes the motherboard, the CPU and the RAM.
