AMD draws the RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT, RX 6650 XT, new high-powered graphics cards

AMD has just announced the launch of three new graphics cards, namely the Radeon RX 6650 XT, 6750 XT and 6950 XT. These three GPUs complete the range of RX 6000s based on the RDNA 2 architecture. We take stock of their characteristics, price and availability.

After presenting the Radeon RX 6500 XT in January 2022 and the RX 6400 in April 2022, AMD returns on May 11 with three new graphics cards for its latest range based on the RDNA 2 architecture. The red team launches this Wednesday the AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT and RX 6650 XT.

As the manufacturer specifies, these three PGUs are equipped with higher frequencies, faster GGDR6 memory, and improved software and firmware over previous products. These will probably be the last RX 6000s before the arrival of the Radeon 7000s. But what do they offer in detail?

The Radeon RX 6950 XT, the opponent of the RTX 3090

Let’s start if you will with the RX 6950 XT, an overpowered graphics card designed to compete with Nvidia’s RTX 3090. It must be said that with an in-game frequency of 2.1 GHz coupled with its 16 GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory, the GPU has the necessary arguments to compete with its competitor’s war machine. Here are its detailed specifications:

  • Calculation units: 80
  • GGDR6: 16 GB
  • In-game frequency: 2.1 GHz
  • Boost frequency: Up to 2.31 GHz
  • Memory Interface: 256-Bit
  • Memory Bandwidth with AMD Infinity Cache: Up to 11728 GB/s
  • PBT: 335W
  • Price: $1099 or €1044 (after conversion)

AMD has released a performance comparison chart on several popular games at 4K with the graphics options maxed out, against the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti. On most titles, the Radeon RX 6950 XT outperforms the RTX 3090as on Doom Eternal (150 FPS), Forza Horizon 5 (62 FPS) or Far Cry 6 (89 FPS).

The Radeon RX 6750 XT takes on the RTX 3070

The Radeon RX 6750 XT will logically try to win against the RTX 3070 or the RTX 3060 Ti. It embeds 40 computing units, 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, for an in-game and boost frequency of 2.495 GHz and 2.6 GHz. On the memory interface side, it will be necessary to rely on 192-Bit. Via the AMD Infinity Cache, the memory bandwidth goes up to 1728 GB/s. As for TBP (the total power of the graphics card), the RX 6750 XT displays 250W. The red team will offer this card at $549, or €521 after conversion.

Here again, the RX 6750 XT should deliver great in-game performance, as evidenced by AMD’s chart with equal or greater FPS on the previously cited titles.

An RX 6650 XT as an alternative to the RTX 3060

Unsurprisingly, the RX 6650 XT will come to impose itself as an alternative to the RTX 3060. Here are these specificities:

  • Compute units: 32 GB
  • GDDR6: 8 GB
  • Frequency in game and in boost: 2,410 GB/s and up to 2,635 GB/s
  • Memory interface: 128-bit
  • Effective memory bandwidth with AMD Infinity Cache: up to 469 GB/s
  • PBT: 180W
  • Price: $339 or €379 after conversion

Once again, AMD’s benchmark highlights excellent in-game performance. Note that here, the gaps are widening significantly between the RX 6650 XT and the RTX 3060. AMD’s mid-range GPU buries its competitor, with differences of several dozen FPS on Doom Eternal or even F1 2021.

As AMD reminds us, these three graphics cards take advantage of the latest technologies developed by AMD such as AMD FSR 1.0, a system that can be compared to Nvidia’s DLSS. Smart Access Memory (SAM) allows you to obtain superior performance with your GPU if you also own certain AMD Series 500 processors or motherboards. We do not forget the AMD Infinity Cache which reduces latency and GPU power consumption.

Release date, custom models, we take stock

According to AMD, these three graphics cards are available today from resellers and manufacturing partners such as ASRock, ASUS, BIOSTAR, Gigabyte, MSI or even Sapphire, PowerColor, XFX and Yeston. Note that MSI has already unveiled its custom models. Indeed, the brand adds its versions to two existing ranges for the occasion:

  • The Gaming X series therefore includes three variants of the RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT and RX 6650 XT, all equipped with a high-end cooling system including TORX Fan 4.0 fans
  • The Mech series is therefore expanding with two references: the MSI Radeon RX 6750 XT and RX 6650 XT. They are equipped with MSI’s TORX Fan 3.0 fans.
