AMD presents the Ryzen 7000 based on the Zen 4 architecture

AMD has presented the new high-performance Ryzen 7000 processors based on the Zen 4 architecture, a new generation that starts from the same base that we saw in Zen 3, and that introduces changes at the microarchitectural level to improve performance and consumption. In this sense, we must also highlight the improvements in efficiency that AMD has achieved, thanks above all to the jump to the 5nm node.

Ryzen 7000 processors use the new LGA1178 socket and AM5 platformmeaning they will only work on motherboards with 600 series chipsets. This platform uses DDR5 memory and supports the new PCIe Gen5 standard, which is a significant evolutionary leap from the AM4 platform, which is limited to DDR4 and PCIe Gen4.

AMD will launch the Ryzen 7000 on September 27, although on that date we will only see a total of four new models, all of them framed in the mid-range and high-end. If we want to buy something cheaper we will have to wait for the second wave of launcheswhich will include more processors and should include non-“X” models and others with more basic configurations and more affordable prices.

According to AMD, the Ryzen 7000 improves the IPC by 13% compared to the Ryzen 5000, and can offer a single-thread performance improvement of 29%, thanks to its higher clock frequencies. The models that have been confirmed for the September 27 launch are the Ryzen 5 7600X, which will have 6 cores and 12 threads and will be priced at $299the Ryzen 7 7700X, which will have 8 cores and 16 threads and will cost $399, the Ryzen 9 7900X, which will have 12 cores and 24 threads and will cost $549and the Ryzen 9 7950X, which will have 16 cores and 32 threads and will cost $699. The latter is the successor to the Ryzen 9 5950X.
