AMD reacts to the Intel Core 12 with its Ryzen 5000 X3D

A few months ago, Lisa Su showed us for the first time the AMD Ryzen 5000 processors with V-Cache, which were based on the use of SRAM memory connected via silicon on the main core. Its function? Increase the size of the L3 cache of the Ryzen 5000 and with it its performance. Well, it seems that the Ryzen 5000 X3D finally have a date.

A few hours after the official presentation of AMD, all the information on the presentation of new products that they are going to present is leaking, however, one of the most outstanding is the date of the Ryzen 5000 X3D, which make use of the V-Cache that AMD introduced a few months ago.

The Ryzen 5000 X3D already have a date

It is clear that AMD could not sit idly by letting Intel with its Core 12 absorb the interest of the market and they need an answer to the new CPUs of their direct rival. Since the Ryzen based on Zen 4 until the second half of 2022, with which a new socket called AM5as AMD needs to respond to the Alder Lake-S in the coming months.

The solution comes in the form of Ryzen 5000 X3D, which use V-Cache to increase the performance of the Zen 3 cores by 15%. We had seen these processors being shown by Lisa Su last June 2021, but we will have to wait for the spring 2022 to have them in our hands.

Since the only change in these CPUs by chiplets is in the addition in the V-Cache in the CCDs and that the IOD does not undergo important changes, they will be compatible with the motherboards with AM4 chipset from AMD currently on the market. In any case we have to bear in mind that the 400 Series needed an update for the Ryzen 5000 and we wonder if one will be needed to be able to use the Ryzen 5000 X3D.

Specifications unknown at the moment

In every processor, the distance to the data is relevant, the further more clock cycles to execute an instruction. Increasing the L3 cache in size increases the chances that a copy of a piece of data will be there and that it will not take the CPU so many cycles to execute that part of the program.

However, placing a chip vertically on top of another affects the temperature of both and with it the clock speeds that they can achieve. We do not know what clock speeds the Ryzen 5000 X3D will be able to reach when they hit the market. In the event that AMD achieves speeds so high and even higher than the current Ryzen then this will mean that internally there have been changes in its design.

The date of the Ryzen 5000 X3D shows us, on the other hand, that AMD has underestimated the Intel Core 12 and needs an answer. Since the Ryzen based on Zen 4, codename Raphael, as well as the launch of the AM5 chipset will coincide with the thirteenth generation of Intel.
