AMD Unveils 4th Generation EPYC Processors

AMD has announced the general availability of 4th generation EPYC processors at the conference «together we advance_data centers», that the company is celebrating in San Francisco and that we have had the opportunity to follow in situ. In the next few days we will offer you in our professional portal, MCPRO, a complete special of everything we have seen there, but this announcement is a preview.

The fourth-generation EPYC processors, codenamed “Genoa” and built under the same general “Zen 4” architecture as the Ryzen 7000 consumer variant, are intended for data centers and according to AMD are the fastest and most energy efficient in the world. Those are its main objectives: improve performance, consolidate infrastructures and reduce energy costs in Data Centers.

“Choosing the right data center processor is more important than ever and EPYC 4 Gen provides leadership across all dimensions”has assured the president and CEO of AMD, Dr. Lisa Su, in her keynote. “Data centers represent the largest growth opportunity and most strategic priority for AMDand we are committed to becoming the go-to partner by offering the industry’s best portfolio of high-performance computing engines«.

4th generation AMD EPYC

EPYC 4th generation processors are designed to offer optimizations for all kinds of professional applications, while helping businesses free up data center resources. Among the features highlighted by AMD we can mention:

  • Greater performance and efficiency. With up to 96 cores in a single processor, the new EPYCs allow customers to deploy fewer servers while using more power to continue to meet their computing needs. The high number of cores adds greater flexibility in data centers.
  • secure data. Through an approach of “Security by design”, AMD continues to offer enhanced security features for the x86 CPU ecosystem. The 4th Generation AMD EPYC processor includes Infinity Guard, a cutting-edge feature set that offers physical and virtual layers of protection. Also, by doubling the number of encryption keys
Compared to previous generations, customers can keep data safe whether it’s stored locally or in the cloud.
  • The latest architecture and features in the industry. These processors provide customers with an all-inclusive feature set so they only have to choose the number of cores and frequency that meets their workload needs. With the advantages of the new ZEN 4 architecture, the new EPYCs introduce support for the latest generations of memory, DDR5, and interfaces such as PCIe 5.0 that are essential for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications.

4th Generation AMD EPYC Model List

AMD will offer a good number of models to satisfy all the needs of the clients, with a list that heads the EPYC 9654 which includes a whopping 96 native processing cores, operating frequencies of up to 3.7 GHz and TDP consumption of 360 watts.

The new AMD solutions for servers and data centers are very interesting, due to their improved performance, energy efficiency and cost savings that they promise. We leave you with the complete keynote of the CEO of AMD promising an extensive special on MCPRO that we will offer you in the coming days.
