An Apple patent application shows a possible foldable iPhone

A new Apple patent application shows that the bitten apple giant has an eye on the possible existence of a foldable iphone. Said request goes beyond simply folding the smartphone, since said action would serve as a protection mechanism for the device.

The patent application filed by Apple describes a new self-retracting technology that, on paper, should be capable of detecting a fall so that the smartphone is able to close before impact. The objective with said automation is quite logical, and is to protect the screen against possible impacts and surfaces on which it may end up resting, such as a dirty sandy ground where friction can cause damage.

Rumors about a foldable iPhone have been circulating for years, and although it is known that Apple has an eye on the sector, it is no less true that it still does not dare to take the step, possibly because it is not able to guarantee the screen durability. In recent times it has been the iPad that has been showing signs of being the first folding device from the Cupertino giant.

That Apple has filed a patent application for a technology to protect a foldable iPhone does not mean that a device with these characteristics is just around the corner, but this points to being yet another move by a company that is apparently slowly fertilizing the ground. While some criticize the fact that Apple is lagging behind in the sector, the corporation with the bitten apple has one thing going for it: the clear dominance of iPhones in the high-end smartphone sector. In fact, months ago it was speculated that the first folding iPhone would have a price tag of $2,500.

For now, or at least that is what is seen from the outside, Apple is in no rush to launch a foldable iPhone and it does not seem to be uncomfortable with the fact that Samsung leads the sector, and it is that although the sales of folding smartphones they are going up, it is no less true that to this day they continue to cast doubts about their durability.

If the sales of folding smartphones continue to rise, it is a matter of time before Apple joins in, but if the sector begins to languish before the appearance of the folding iPhone, it is not unreasonable to think that the Cupertino giant would withdraw before betting on a sector which by then would go down.
