An entrepreneur with a disability wins the award for the best vermouth of the year 2021

The Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers (AEPEV) has awarded Miguel Angel Alonso, entrepreneur with a disability, for its vermouth, after analyzing more than a thousand brands. Red Florum Vermouth, which is the name of the drink awarded as the best vermouth of 2021, is made by Bodega Florum in Alcalá de Guadaíra, Seville, and in the final phase it has competed with a total of 139 wines and vermouths, plus 46 spirits.

Miguel Ángel Alonso is the manager of this winery, an entrepreneur with a disability who obtained a grant from Fundación ONCE, and advice from Inserta Empleo, to start up the company dedicated to the production of vermouth.

According to the Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers, Vermut Florum Rojo was already a finalist in past editions of these same awards, and obtained Silver Medal in the VI Prize ‘Wines and Spirits of the Province of Seville’ 2021 (Provincial Diputación de Sevilla), in the category of Liqueur, flavored and sweet wines.

For Miguel Angel Alonso “It is a pride to see the name of our young winery and the production area of ​​Seville in the medal table of the XIII AEPEV Awards together with very important wineries and wine regions of our country, and that comes to reward the work we have been doing, at the same time that it motivates us enormously to continue making our project grow. I would also like to thank all the clients and entities that have supported our winery project since its inception in 2016”.

Miguel Ángel left his position at Inserta Sevilla, Fundación ONCE’s training and employment entity, to begin his entrepreneurship. He was granted financial aid and was offered advice to develop his business idea.

In 2021 alone, more than 80 entrepreneurs with disabilities launched their companies with the support of this entity within the framework of the Por Talento Emprende program, with which the entity wants to promote self-employment and the labor integration of people with disabilities. This project is supported by the European Social Fund.
