Analysis of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple: an open world without limits

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Purple They have had their launch this Friday, November 18, on Nintendo Switch. And as the name implies, the title comes in two editions, that they are about the same game, but with a few small differences in each one. So depending on the title you choose, you will be able to meet two different Legendary Pokémon: Koraidon or Maraidon.

We have had the opportunity to analyze the version of Pokémon Scarlet and we already have our conclusions ready. Is it worth having in our Switch library?

What is Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple about?

You will enjoy an adventure in palesa place where you can explore freely and without having to follow an order established by the plot. Of course, in addition to all the discoveries and stories that await you, you will have to hone your skills as a Pokémon Trainer by battling other Trainers as you travel through Paldea. In addition to the above, you will meet the inhabitants of the region and you will catch (and collect) many Pokémon; from the first generation to the new Pokémon that are part of this installment.

With Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple you will be able to continue enjoying the same old classics, such as discovering Pokémon, training them, fighting and forming a team with them. But first you’ll have to attend classes at the Orange Academy before venturing to explore Paldea.

So just start playing in Pokemon Scarletthey will introduce you to the Orange Academy, and then you will meet your first and most difficult mission: choose your first pokemon And it will be Clavel, the current Director of the Orange Academy, who will introduce you to these charming creatures. Which one would you choose to be your Pokémon adventure partner?

You will also meet other characters such as Albora, Damián, Team Star (which would be the equivalent of Team Rocket), and mencia, who will become your new friend and mentor. She will help you learn everything you need to know about Pokémon, so it will be a recurring character in the plot.

But your adventure will really begin once you pass, in a very fleeting way, through the Academy and have spoken with Mencía, Damián and a mysterious character who wants to dismantle Team Star. This is where three missions (or paths) will be presented To start your exploration of Paldea:

• Victory Voyage
• The Legendary Path
• The Stardust Way

Each mission has objectives that we can face in any order… well, more or less. We explain to you.

Victory Voyage brings back the gyms and medals that will help you prepare to become a Pokémon League Champion; in total you will have to defeat eight leaders and the High Command.

The Legendary Path will take you to different areas to fight with giant versions of various Pokémon. And finally, we have The Stardust Way; in these missions our goal is defeat the leader and his party minions that have bases scattered throughout Palea.

As we tell you, you can face each mission in the way you prefer, since there is no order to complete them… but there is a level of difficulty, so how you can complete them will depend entirely on you and what level you have trained to your pokemon

What else does Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple offer us?

This new installment has been ambitious in offer us an open world without limits, as we told you before. But there are also other aspects that make it unique. Let’s start for example with picnics. In them we can interact with our Pokémon and even prepare sandwiches with all kinds of ingredients. Food that will be useful during our adventure, because they offer various effects to our Pokémon depending on the ingredients they carry.

On the other hand, one appreciates the fact that this time the combats are not random and that the trainers that we meet on our way don’t stop us forcibly to fight, but that we have the option to face them.

Finally, the teracrystallization is the novelty of this installment. This can be activated on a single Pokémon in each fight and will serve to enhance its movements. In addition to the fact that on our way we will be able to come across teracrystallized pokemon to fight with them and get great rewards if we defeat them.

We can continue with the list of more novelties that this installment offers us, but we prefer that you discover it on your own.

Five curiosities that we share with you

• As said before, This new installment is inspired by Spain. Just see it in the names of the towns and cities of the Paldea Region. Do the Cahíz Town or the Sierra Napada sound familiar to you?
• The inspiration does not stop there, because within the game we will find dishes influenced by Spanish gastronomy and from other regions.
• Game Freak has managed to represent Spanish culture.
• The difficulty level is quite well adjusted and we will have time to train our Pokémon to continue advancing in level and fighting in the different gyms in Paldea.
• We will have to fight in the Pokémon gyms not only to defeat the leaders and practice, but also to get medals that are necessary for the Pokémon to obey us.

conclusion

We can only say that Pokémon Scarlet and Purple are one of the best installments that have been made in the saga. The open world has certainly raised the bar a lot for gameplay. Many of the novelties that have been added to these titles have been a complete success. The only Negative point we found are the graphics.

If you have already browsed the internet, perhaps you will have come across a large number of memes referring to what the game is full of bugs that make these installments look like they have not been completely finished at the design level. But come on, what those details have not taken away, in our opinion, the charm which has Pokémon Scarlet and Purple.
