Android 13 will officially be called Tiramisu. According to a hint present in the first beta version for developers, Google will finally return to dessert names for its next version of the OS.
In 2019, Google rolled out Android 10 to all compatible smartphones. For the first time, the Mountain View giant has not decked out its new version of the interface witha dessert name. The company said it wanted to clarify and simplify the naming of its updates. Android Q has therefore been renamed Android 10.
Before Android 10, Google always titled its updates with sweet treat names. In particular, we were entitled to Cupcake, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop or Oreo updates. Apparently, this idea would have come from a private joke within the teams of Google.

Google publicly refers to Android 13 as Tiramisu
According to our colleagues from 9to5Google, the company has decided to return to old traditions with Android 13. A few days ago, Google just released the first Developer Preview of the update. This first beta version offers a brief overview of the new features and changes of Android 13.
Digging into the code of the first beta for developers, the outlet discovered a clue that suggests Android 13 will officially be rebranded as Tiramisu. For the first time in several years, the codename would not be exclusively used internally by Google teams.
In the settings of a smartphone running Android 13, 9to5Google discovered the mention “Tiramisu” under the “Android version”. On previous iterations of the mobile OS, Google was content to mention the official numbering or the letter of the associated code name.
On the other hand, the entire code name was never present in the first beta, nor in the following ones. The dessert name was exclusively confined to internal communicationsalthough a Google engineer inadvertently referred to Android 12 publicly as Snow Cone last year.
With Android 13, Google publicly displays the name Tiramisu. According to the specialized media, accustomed to digging into the code of the operating system, Tiramisu will therefore not be just a code name. For the record, the first beta accessible to the general public should land sometime next May.
