According to several testimonies published on the official Google forum, the Google Maps application on Android Auto is the victim of a rather annoying bug. For some unknown reason, the app resets every 5 minutes. For some, the problem is even more serious, leading to complete Google Maps and Android Auto crashes with the sole result of a black screen.

When my Vivo x70 Pro is connected to the car for navigation via Android Auto, the map / navigation keeps refreshing every 5-10 minutes. Each application and the smartphone work with the latest update ”, explains one of the aggrieved users on the Android Auto forum.

No solution for this Google Maps bug

As this user specifies, all the makeshift solutions that usually work don’t work: “I formatted the phone, replaced it, and also cleared the cache and internal memory. Nothing seems to correct the problem ”, he admits. Obviously, the bug does not distinguish between smartphone models. Another user reports having the same concerns on his Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Moreover, he explains that the bug occurs in wired connection as in wireless. He also tried to change cables, to no avail. “In addition to the untimely refresh, I have also encountered complete crashes of the card, which no longer loads while Android Auto becomes unusable with a black screen. I have to disconnect and reconnect the control screen several times for the board to load again. Imagine doing that while driving… ”, he denounces.

Other users have faced the same problems with their Pixel 3 XL or their Pixel 6 Pro, the latest from Google. Unfortunately for injured users, no official solution is on the agenda. For now, Google remains silent on this matter. It must be said that this bug affects a very small number of users. If you are affected, it will take patience. As a reminder, Galaxy S21 owners have also been experiencing serious performance concerns on Android Auto for a few days.
