Apple announces the winners of the Apple Music Awards in its 3rd edition

The Cupertino-based company has announced the winners of the third installment of the Apple Music Awards, awards that recognize musical achievements in five categories: Artist of the Year, Composer of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Best Song of the Year and Best Album of the Year based on data collected by Apple Music.

For this year a new category has been created, Regional Artist of the Year. This category highlights top artists from 5 countries: Africa, France, Germany, Japan and Russia. According to the vice president of Apple Music, Oliver Schusser, this new category shows “the impact of extraordinarily talented musicians around the world.”


The Weekend - Apple Music Awards

Unsurprisingly, the artist The Weeknd was named Global Artist of the Year from Apple Music, thanks to the album “After Hours”, an album that holds the record for the most streamed R & B / Soul album in its first week in 73 countries.

Singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo scored a hat-trick by winning the awards Breakout Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. The song “Driver’s license” recorded the highest number of first week streams for a debut single on Apple Music.

R&B artist HER clinched the title of Composer of the Year for writing several chart-topping songs like “Damage” and “Come Through.”

The winning artists in the Regional Edge category are:

  • Africa – Wizkid
  • Germany – RIN
  • France- Aya Nakamura
  • Russia- Scriptonite
  • Japan- OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM

At the pandemic awards, the 2020 Apple Music Awards, they went to Taylor Swift as Best Songwriter of the Year, the rapper Lil baby as Best Edge of the Year and Meghan Thee as Best Revelation Edge. Beginning December 7, Apple Music and the Apple TV app will begin airing special programs featuring interviews with the winners.
