Apple could present the MacBook Air with M2 chip at WWDC 2022

The next-generation MacBook Air is one of the most anticipated ultralight business laptops right now, not only because it could bring a major redesign, but also because it could be the first to use the new Apple M2 SoC, a chip that will have a CPU based on the ARM architecture, although with the classic customization layer of the Cupertino giant, and will also come with a new generation GPU and NPU.

During the last weeks we have been seeing multiple rumors that say that the MacBook Air 2022 could reach the market in the second half of this year, but now new information indicates that its presentation could take place at WWDC in 2022. If this is confirmed, the arrival of the MacBook Air 2022 would take place earlier than expected.

At the level of specifications we still do not have anything official, but from what we have been able to see in numerous rumors and alleged leaks, the 2022 MacBook Air will maintain its focus as a more affordable option, which means that it will continue to be clearly below the MacBook Pro. The most important novelty that these new laptops would bring would be precisely the new chip, since the rest of the keys at a technical level would be very similar to those of the 2020 generation.

The Apple M2 SoC could represent a very important leap from the current generation because, in theory, it will use a totally new architecture (Armv9 according to the latest rumors), and because it will be manufactured at TSMC’s 3nm node. However, we must take all this with care because we still have conflicting information.

Regarding the configuration of the chip, it is said that it would be equipped with 8 high-performance cores and 4 high-efficiency cores. The MacBook Air 2022 in its base configuration should continue to have 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD, although we cannot rule out an increase in one of these two components.
