Apple external monitor: cheaper and for this year, will it be released?

It was thanks to an exclusive from 9to5Mac that we learned about Apple’s plans regarding this new monitor. However, that one was more aimed at being a substitute for the current Pro Display XDR, since it was said that it would mount an A13 Bionic chip and would have improvements in graphic performance and even functions such as AirPlay. Months later, other analysts were giving new indications that this monitor could come in 2022, but nothing has been known again.

There is a need for a cheap version

Although the Pro Display XDR is focused on Mac Pro users, something evident seeing that they share a design line, the truth is that it is a monitor suitable for any other computer. However, it has a price of 5,499 euros without counting accessories, which can be 6,499 if nanotextured glass is added. To this we add the urgent need for accessories because the screen comes without any type of support and if you opt for the official ones, you will see that the stand is worth 1,099 euros and the VESA adapter is 219 euros.

Whether these prices are justified or not is something that we leave to each one, since in the end it is still a subjective element. But what is clear is that not available to everyone. And although we can find cheap monitors for Macs on the market that offer good performance, Apple’s own option is missing. Perhaps with reduced specifications, but that offers a good resolution, size and features of the ecosystem such as AirPlay.

We also remember that Apple has agreements with various manufacturers such as LG, Samsung and BOE for the supply of panels of all kinds and especially OLEDs. Therefore, the company could take advantage of it to make orders for them. Although it is no less true that in recent times there have been supply difficulties due to the component crisis that is still shaking the sector.

No recent news from any monitor

Despite how interesting a cheaper monitor like the one we mentioned above would be, the truth is that it does not seem like it will happen in the short term. And we don’t know if it’s because of supply problems or because Apple doesn’t really trust a product of this type. The fact is that no source has stated outright that such a screen can arrive, much less in 2022.

And based on what has been seen in recent months, there does not seem to be much optimism regarding a second generation of the Pro Display XDR. We understand that it does not arouse as much interest as an iPhone to monopolize covers day in and day out, but for a few months now the information about it has completely ceased, which makes us anticipate that perhaps these plans have been postponed or even canceled .

Be that as it may, and seeing in what niche it would be located, if we saw a monitor like this, we would see it at the next WWDC in June. Unless the company wants to introduce it alongside the Macs and then it can do so at any event.
