We had seen many rumors that pointed to the possible presentation of the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro at this year’s WWDC, which took place yesterday, and finally these have been fulfilled. The apple company gave us quite a surprise, since also introduced the new M2 chipa very powerful silicon that had been called into question by certain rumors that said said chip had been delayed.
In the end, all the information that we had been seeing has been fulfilled, and this leaves us with a very interesting panorama. The new Apple M2 SoC is manufactured on TSMC’s second-generation 5nm node, has a configuration of 8 cores at the CPU level and 10 cores at the GPU levelwhich means that there are no changes in this regard compared to the Apple M1, since those 8 cores are divided into four high-performance and four high-efficiency cores.
This chip has a 16-core neural processing unit, has a 10-core GPU, a high-performance multimedia engine and offers a bandwidth of 100 GB / s, which represents an increase of 50% compared to the generation previous. In terms of CPU and GPU performance, Apple claims this new chip is up to 18% and 35% faster than the Apple M1, respectively. It integrates up to 24 GB of LPDDR5 memory, and as expected, it has been integrated into the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
The new MacBook Air comes with a major design change, but maintains its commitment to thinness and lightness, weighing less than 1.3 kilograms. It has a configuration based on the Apple M2 chip, has a 13.6-inch screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,664 pixels, uses a fanless design and can be configured with up to 24 GB of LPDDR5 memory and 2 TB of SSD storage. Apple promises autonomy of up to 18 hours. It will be available from July and its base price will be 1,519 euros.
For its part, the MacBook Pro has a 13.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, it is also configured with the Apple M2, but it has an active cooling system, which should translate into greater performance. It can be configured with 24 GB of LPDDR5 and 2 TB of SSD storage, and promises autonomy of up to 20 hours. It will also be available in July from 1,619 euros.
