Apple wants to grow in smart home

That of smart home devices is a market in which Apple’s position is, if we think about it, somewhat weak. It is enough to review its catalog to verify that the only devices from Cupertino in this context are the Apple TV multimedia player and the HomePod Mini speakers and the newly resurrected HomePod. It is true that on its website we can find a broader offer, but it draws on third-party products compatible with HomeKit, Apple’s own technology for managing a connected home.

This, surely, responds to the policy of maintaining a reduced catalog in terms of own references, something that Steve Jobs promoted especially during his second term in charge of the company. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but imagining a catalog like the current one (references, sizes, colors, etc.) when he led the company is not easy. Of course, if it were up to Jobs, we probably would never have seen an iPad Mini, four iPhone models (faces combined with all their storage and color variants), a virtual reality viewer like the one that will theoretically arrive this year… yes, it would definitely be a much smaller catalogue.

Although the imprint of the founder is still very present at Apple, the truth is that Tim Cook has made, over the years (it seems incredible that more than ten years have passed since the death of Jobs) decisions that have separated Apple Dell straight path marked by Jobs. This is neither good nor bad, it is simply normal, since each manager has his own style and his own ideas. And it seems that, in this sense, those of Tim Cook are diametrically opposed to those of his illustrious predecessor.

Thus, after experiencing the arrival of iPhones with all colors and flavors, iPads of all possible sizes and so on, according to analyst Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to increase its own catalog of smart home devices. In this context, the resurrection of the HomePod makes perfect sense, and also that in Cupertino they decided to lower the price of the new generation of Apple TV, in addition to improving its technical characteristics and benefits.

The next step, according to Gurman, has to do with screens, small and large, but primarily for home use. The small ones, less than the size of an iPad Mini, could be hung on the wall and used as a control tool for the home infrastructure. The big ones, for their part, could also have additional functions, mainly the reproduction of multimedia content, in the style of a digital photo-video frame.

With this movement, Apple launches directly against a market in which Google, Amazon and Meta are more consolidated, but it does so precisely when the poor economic situation of the last two has forced them to leave that market somewhat aside. Will he do it precisely for that reason? It is likely that you have drawn enough knowledge from the experience of others, that is, from those who will now be your competitors in this regard, and that you have decided that this is your moment.

At the moment, yes, there are no dates or estimated prices, so we are also waiting for news in this field, which are added to the list in which other Apple projects are found, such as the viewers that I have already mentioned before. , or the much-rumored Apple car, which has been in the bedroom for the past decade and which, despite multiple indications that the company is working on it (or at least that it has been in the past), still does not appear head.
