Apple’s augmented reality headset finally for the end of next year?

Apple should finally unveil its first augmented reality headset next year! A long-awaited event, but which could be a victim of the current supply difficulties.

2022 will be the year of augmented reality for Apple. The manufacturer has in recent years multiplied the stones on the road: dedicated development tools (ARKit), integration of sensors (the lidar present on the iPad Pro and high-end iPhones) … Everything is ready, except the device that will allow you to take full advantage of it.

Delay to be expected

And this product should be a state-of-the-art helmet. It is rumored that it will integrate a 4K OLED screen in each eye, 15 optical modules, several cameras, Wi-Fi 6 compatibility, and enough power to analyze eye and hand movements. A very advanced headset, therefore, capable of integrating into augmented reality and virtual reality experiences.

Of course, all of this will come at a cost. Apple obliges, the device will not be cheap. The rumor thus evoked a price of 3,000 $, which will target the product to a niche and to developers. Despite everything, the headset is nonetheless eagerly awaited, if only because it will embody Apple’s vision of augmented reality. While waiting for something thinner, lighter and more discreet (glasses?).

It remains to be seen when this headset will be available. Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the best observers of the Apple market, had predicted that the device would be released in the second quarter of 2022. The analyst reviews his forecast and in a recent note, now refers to the fourth quarter: in question, the difficulties of supply that hit the entire industry.
