Are they going to ban screenshots on Twitter?

Twitter is a social network that you can read regardless of whether you have ever registered an account. You can read a tweet if they pass you a link or even view an embedded post in a blog or forum. However, since the origin of the social network, there is also a less professional way of sharing tweets: the screenshot. There are profiles that are dedicated solely to compiling funny tweets on social networks such as Instagram or Facebook based on taking screenshots. Twitter wants to put an end to that, so they have decided to take action on the matter. Is it the end of screenshots on Twitter?

Twitter doesn’t want screenshots

Twitter makes it easy for you to share a post on another social network. It’s as easy as selecting the correct option within the ‘share’ option. It does not matter if you use the network from the browser, with your mobile or with the tablet. The options are pretty much the same regardless of device.

However, there are many users who share tweets taking screenshots. The usual thing is to make the capture and pass it through a Whatsapp or Telegram group to save others from having to click. In the worst cases, there are accounts that make a living from sharing Twitter screenshots. They even profit financially from stealing content from the social network.

This is how this new implementation of Twitter works

It seems that Twitter has had enough of people missharing their posts, so for the past few days, the network has tried a new implementation to try to educate the user, and to share the tweets correctly. This modification has been introduced to a small group of users. When the system detects that we have pressed the buttons to take a screenshot of a tweet, a message appears. pop-up window that displays the share menu.

This is Twitter’s way of telling people not to share content in a way that doesn’t directly bring traffic to the service. At the moment, this feature seems to have been tested only on the Twitter app for iOS devices, although an implementation is expected for Android.

A measure that is contrary to the philosophy of Twitter

The screenshot is essential on a network like Twitter. Not to share content, but to save what some users say. A lot of barbarities are published on Twitter every day. The screenshot is basic in order to report any type of harassment, insult or slander. Hence, this screenshot notice can go against the users themselves.

At the moment, Twitter has not completely blocked screenshots – as is the case on Netflix or DAZN, for example. It is interesting that Twitter teaches the user to share content, but it would be a mistake if they blocked them completelysince they would take away from users a weapon with which they can defend themselves in a simple way.

Much to learn from TikTok

On the opposite side of this we have a network like TikTok. The Chinese did not care exactly if their publications passed to other networks. Simply, they were cured in health and facilitated the process together with a watermark that shows the name of the user who created the video and the logo of the social network.
