On April 1, ASUS announced the release of its portable game console, the ROG Ally. Will she be able to make a place for herself alongside the Steam Deck?
ASUS has announced the launch ofa portable game console: the ROG Ally. As a preamble, note that the Taiwanese company has not yet confirmed the data sheet of his device, all the following information will therefore be taken in the conditional.
The company reveals few technical details about its new product, but the video posted on YouTube still gives us a good overview. The goal of ROG Ally is to provide a gaming experience as close to that experienced on a computer dedicated to gaming. The portable console runs on Windows 11. It is equipped with an AMD chip engraved in 4 nm specially designed for the occasion.
The ASUS ROG Ally comes hunting in the lands of Valve’s Steam Deck
Just like the Steam Deck, its screen measures 7 inches. This is their only common point. Because whether in terms of its Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), brightness, announced at 500 nits, as well as its 120Hz refresh rate, or response time of 5 ms, ASUS’s proposal promises to be better than Valve’s in all respects. Of course, it will be possible to connect the console to a television, just like the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck.

It will be possible to use the ASUS ROG Ally in desktop mode, and to add an external GPU, the XG Mobile eGPU. The latter will of course be optional, especially since, according to ASUS representatives, the console in its basic version will be twice as powerful as the Steam Deck. To cool it all down, the ROG Ally will take advantage of the Intelligent Cooling system, which despite its two fans, should still remain extremely quiet. As it should be, all the buttons of the console will be configurable, and it will be possible to buy PC games on the main stores, Steam, Battle.net and other Epic Games. ASUS has yet to provide details on the price of its device.
