Audi built an electric prototype monster for Ken Block

With his new Audi S1 E-Tron Quattro Hoonitron, Ken Block is now armed to the teeth for his future gymkhana events.

Celebrity rally driver Ken Block is ready to go electric. In collaboration with the manufacturer Audi, he unveiled his brand new Audi S1 E-Tron Quattro Hoonitron, an electric competition vehicle inspired by the iconic Audi Sport Quattro S1 Pikes Peak. designed especially for him.

At present, the machine is still only at the prototype stage and should still require a few months of work from the manufacturer’s teams. This explains the virtual absence of technical details on the machine; for the moment, the German team keeps, for example, the mystery on the engine.

According to the specialized site Motor1, this prototype would have gone from concept to reality in just four weeks, which is quite impressive in terms of engineering. The site explains that this particularly short period is due to the enthusiasm of the Audi teams; the engineers apparently had a blast, and we can understand them. Even if they are specialists in the discipline, it is probably not every day that they have the opportunity to work on such an exotic machine.

A bitumen sandwich made for Gymkhana

According to Engadget, it will be a car specially dedicated to a niche of motorsport called Gymkhana. In essence, it is a test of vspeed and precision; the pilot has to squeeze through a convoluted course and sometimes strewn with obstacles, which often includes many complicated sections. This requires pilots to demonstrate all their mastery of all advanced flying techniques.

For now, Ken Block has contented himself with teasing the car. So we still haven’t seen him drive it on video at the moment. In an interview with Audi Progress, the champion however said he was very excited by the sensations he felt during his first tests. To see the beast in action, we will have to wait for the launch of its future electric Gymkhana competition, called Electrikhana.
