Audio-Technica launches headphones with monstrous battery life

Audio-Technica unveils its new wireless headphones. In addition to active noise reduction, the ATH-CKS50TW boast a battery life of 15 to 20 hours.

Autonomy is an important element when choosing wireless headphones. Aware of its importance, brands are used to highlighting this feature; and mix the listening time on a single charge with that offered through the charging case. Audio-Technica likes durable headphones and after the 60 hours of battery life of its ATH-S220BT headphones, the manufacturer is back with the ATH-CKS50TW. These wireless headphones announce themselves with a battery life of 20 hours on a single charge or 15 hours with the noise reduction activated.

The charging case adds 30 hours of listening time, boosting battery life to a total of 50 hours. A quick charge function offers to recover approximately 90 minutes of playback (with noise reduction disabled) after 10 minutes of charging. The Japanese manufacturer allows the headphones to be charged via the USB-C port of the case, but it does not mention compatibility with wireless charging.

On the audio side, the ATH-CKS50TW incorporate 9mm Solid Bass transducers. They promise “deep bass” while the shape of the headphones must ensure a “optimal fit”. Different tips come with these headphones weighing around 8g each. They are IPX4 certified for increased splash resistance, which the case is not. The Japanese manufacturer adds an active noise reduction function, accessible from an integrated button or an application. A hear-through function, also called “Transparency” mode, allows you to hear surrounding noise.

Enduring and complete headphones

Autonomous, the Audio-Technica headphones offer a connection via Bluetooth 5.2. They support aptX Adaptive audio, aptX, AAC or SBC codecs and benefit from a low latency mode. The latter is suitable for audio synchronization for video games and games. Audio-Technica’s new headphones feature Sony’s 360 Reality Audio technology for a more immersive experience. Thus, it is possible to access the spatial audio that some platforms like Apple Music, Deezer or Tidal have.

Finally, the firm mentions the presence of Qualcomm’s cVc technology for “clearer conversations”. The multipoint connection is also there to connect to two devices simultaneously. In addition to a smartphone, the ATH-CKS50TW can connect to a computer or tablet.

The Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW headphones are available now at a price of 169 euros.
