BarLab Ventures, new innovation channel to promote the Foodtech sector

Mahou San Miguel has released BarLab Venturesits new open innovation platform that consolidates its commitment to entrepreneurship and digitization. This initiative, which represents an evolution of the pioneering BarLab Challenge Future project, created in 2016, aims to serve as a link between the entrepreneurial ecosystem and Mahou San Miguel, becoming a permanent channel for the development of disruptive projects for the company’s value chain.

Thus, it extends its scope of application to the entire Foodtech sector to offer comprehensive and long-term solutions to the challenges that are currently being generated in the food sector. Alimentation and drinks, taking advantage of the possibilities offered by new technologies.

BarLab Ventures will be active throughout the year, constantly and proactively presenting challenges to the entrepreneurial community but being, at the same time, a listening channel that allows receiving valuable information about the current state of the entrepreneurial world and new technologies and promoting, as a result, the implementation of innovative initiatives.

To further enhance collaboration, Mahou San Miguel wants BarLab to be the germ of an innovative ecosystem in which different actors are integrated such as research centers, financing groups, Foodtech cooperatives, space and coworking promoters, commercial groups, product experts, etc. Everything to guarantee a transversal vision that allows facing the needs of the sector from a polyhedral perspective.

The first two challenges that can already be consulted on the project’s website are an example of this: the search for sustainable alternatives that make it possible to take full advantage of the raw materials used in the brewing process and the definition of the “beverages of the future”, with new categories, processes and innovations that give a new dimension to the non-alcoholic or low alcohol segments. In accordance with the philosophy of the platform, the company Eatable, a benchmark in the sector and with which it is hoped to reach new markets with a clear commitment to diversification and innovation, has been involved.

In this way, Mahou San Miguel renews a pioneering project that, in the six years it has been active, has developed more than 17 projects, from more than 450 proposals.
