EA is so disappointed that could offer Battlefield 2042 for free, a move that would make a lot of sense considering the terrible reviews the game has received, and how poorly it would have sold. It is important to keep in mind that there is still no firm decision, and that EA would have to tread carefully so as not to upset those who paid for the game.
By this I mean that while we can’t totally rule out the possibility of EA ending up offering Battlefield 2042 for free, deep down I’m more inclined to think that it will limit that free model to a certain part of the game, limited and reduced to specific things that will allow users to try it without spending money. If you like the experience, you can unlock all the content by purchasing the game. It would be the sensible thing to do, no doubt.
In spite of everything, something very important must be taken into account, and that is that the disappointment that the fans of the franchise have experienced has been so great that some have already responded to this leak with a resounding “I still wouldn’t try it”. Personally, I think Battlefield 2042 has been the goal of too much hate, so much so that it is impossible to justify, and I am the first to recognize that its state, at a technical and optimization level, is very improvable.
It’s true that Battlefield 2042 has significant shortcomings, and it’s also true that its performance on PC can be greatly improved, as it suffers from a huge bottleneck caused by poor optimization at the CPU level, but in the end it’s fun and the truth is that you enjoy it a lot, especially if we play it with friends. With this in mind, I think a free, or partially free Battlefield 2042 could be a move in the right direction to give it a boost and try to boost sales, and speed up the entry of new players.
How would EA monetize a free Battlefield 2042?
I know that this is the question that many of you are asking yourselves right now, and the answer is not complicated at all, since I could get it without problem through micropayments, that is, using digital content that only affects the aesthetic plane of the game, such as new uniforms and weapon designs, for example, that can be purchased for real money. It is a common practice in many games, and as long as it does not affect the gameplay or create any kind of imbalance, it is totally acceptable.
Free games are becoming increasingly popular. So much so that Activision Blizzard itself decided to take advantage of that pull by launching Call of Duty Warzone, a totally free “Battle Royal” inspired by its well-known franchise that is monetized through micropayments. It’s been hugely successful, and so we wouldn’t have been surprised to see a free-to-play version of Battlefield following that same scheme.
Now, after the crash of the latest installment of the well-known EA and DICE franchise, I think the perfect scenario has been created Why take the plunge, perhaps not with a free Battlefield 2042, but by releasing some of its content. For example, it could offer the possibility of playing one of its game modes free of charge, and keep the rest blocked until the title is purchased.
Personally, and after playing Battlefield 2042, I am sure that it would be worth spending a few hours on a possible free version, even despite its problems and the limitations that it would have because, as I said, I find it fun, but I want to know your opinion: Does the idea of playing Battlefield 2042 for free appeal to you? We read in the comments.
EA is reportedly very disappointed with how Battlefield 2042 has performed and is “looking at all the options” when it comes to the title, this is including looking at Free to Play in some capacity.
