Be careful if you have a PayPal account, they will charge you a commission

PayPal It is one of the fastest, most comfortable and safest ways to buy online. This platform has its own wallet, where you can store money, as well as allowing us to link a bank account or a card to make payments directly with them through the platform. PayPal has always been free for users, since the commissions were ultimately paid by the seller. However, from now on this will change.

In 2021, PayPal decided to start charge a new fee for inactivity in some countries. With this, the payment platform aims to put an end to fake accounts and encourage registered users to continue paying with it. A year ago, Spain got rid of commissions, since it was not included in the list of countries that were going to start charging them. However, the joy does not last forever, and it is that, today, the payment platform has indicated that this new commission will reach many more countries.

Either you pay, or you run out of account

This new commission works very simply. PayPal will charge 10 euros to all users who have an account and have not generated movement in it during the last 12 months. If the account has less than 10 euros in balance, the commission will be the amount of the account, but at no time will the balance be negative. And if the account has a zero balance, then the commission will not be charged.

If for any reason the account remains without a positive balance after paying the fee, and it continues for another 60 days without activity, then PayPal will directly close the user’s account.

This new position, moreover, is imminent. In other words, PayPal is going to start charging the commission to all inactive accounts starting next December 13. That is, if you have an account, and you have not used it since December 2021, you have less than a month to carry out any of the following recommendations and avoid being charged this commission.

How to prevent PayPal from charging me commission

If we want to avoid PayPal charging us this commission, we simply have to generate movement with the account. We can do this in many ways:

  • Sign in to the account.
  • Buy and pay with PayPal.
  • Send money to a friend.
  • Withdraw money from the balance to the bank account.
  • Donate money.
  • Have zero balance.

With any of these actions, our account will be marked as “active”, and we will have another 12 months before we are marked for the commission charge again. Therefore, if we want to avoid this commission, we recommend two things, either log in to the platform, or directly withdraw all the balance we have to a bank account so that, having a zero balance, we are not charged the commission.

Also, if we have a personal PayPal account In selected countries, such as Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece, Hungary or Poland, we will not have to worry about the commission, since these countries are excluded from payment in 2022, although it will surely arrive for future years.
