Beelink Expand F, a very interesting USB Type-C dock

The Beelink Expand F is a very interesting dock because of how unconventional it is. When we talk about docks or concentrators we are used to seeing solutions that simply integrate a certain number of additional connectors, but the Beelink Expand F it goes far beyond that reality.

With this model, the firm Beelink has launched on the market a unit that has a format similar to that of a mini PC, and that has internal space to mount an SSD unit in M.2 2280 format, and can also house an SSD or 2.5 inch HDD. This means that we can use it as a external storage solution, and also as a connector hub, since it has:

  • Five USB 3.0 Type-A ports.
  • One USB-C port.
  • Two HDMI outputs.
  • One Gigabit Ethernet connector.
  • A 3.5 mm jack.

The Beelink Expand F uses its own connector for power, and has a dedicated button to turn it on and off. This is very useful as when we are not going to use it for long periods of time We will not have to disconnect it from the current, it will be enough to press the off button, without further ado.

In total, the Beelink Expand F is available in three different configurations, one without storage, the starting price of which is 131 euros, another with a 512 GB SSD, priced at 175 euros, and another with a 512 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD, priced at 210 euros.

If we decide to buy the model without storage units, no problem, we can install the units we want ourselves. However, we must bear in mind that we are limited to SATA interface, which means that we will not be able to take advantage of the high transfer speeds that PCIE Gen3 and higher drives achieve. According to the manufacturer, with a SATA III SSD we can reach speeds of up to 440 MB / s, while with an HDD we can achieve 170 MB / s in sequential reading and 70 MB / s in sequential writing.
