Berria Bike is committed to digitization to increase its production capacity

The Spanish firm of high-performance bicycles, Berria Bike, expands its facilities and undertakes a major digitization project to increase its production capacity by up to 60%. With this impulse, it reinforces the bases to promote its international expansion plan.

Berria Bike is a clear example of how an SME located in a small town in La Mancha can become a successful business and have international projection.

After a decade pedaling, the company has announced the expansion of its facilities located in Villarrobledo (Albacete) from 2,500 to 3,000 square meters. But this is not just about an increase in acreage as the company has also taken a step forward in its digitization turning this production center into a smart and connected factory, which will contribute to improving the customer experience.

And, with this remodeling, Berria Bike optimizes its structure, which will allow it to increase its production capacity starting in 2022 and manufacturing up to 200 customizable premium and competition bikes per day. This will be possible thanks to the start-up of a new production and assembly line that adds to the four already existing for the production of large runs, as well as exclusive models for those clients who opt for the customization service offered by the firm. .

The expansion of this center will also allow an increase in the storage area, which will help improve logistics and stock management. With this they trust in optimizing their international business since, as David Vitoria, CEO and co-founder of Berria Bike and professional ex-cyclist points out, they see great market opportunities in countries such as France and the United Kingdom, among others. “The expansion of our facilities is a prior and necessary step to safely conduct our international expansion plan that, in 2022, we hope will translate into reaching 20% of sales abroad”, explains Vitoria.

Likewise, this expansion of facilities has meant doubling the workforce, with the creation of 20 new jobs, in addition to the 20 already existing, and most of them coming from the same area where the company is located, with the impact that this entails in its commitment to the development of the industrial and technological fabric in the so-called “Spain emptied”.

Berria Bike 4.0

In addition to these improvements, the expansion of the Berria Bike facilities has been accompanied by a commitment to digitization to create a smart factory in which all work areas are connected for monitoring in real time and controlling even the smallest detail.

This advance will allow better control of all processes, something that will also benefit the client since they will be able to monitor in real time the production status of their bicycle, and know in which production phase it is at all times until its delivery.

In the words of David Vitoria, this step represents a great advance for a company that has always opted for an almost artisanal development of a model of industry 4.0. “At first we opted for this way of working naturally, without thinking that we were doing it, it could be labeled as ‘smart industry’. For this new stage, we have been aware at all times of what new technologies could bring us and how we wanted to integrate them to continue improving both our production center and the experience of our customers “, concludes Vitoria.
