Honor has surfed on the gaming smartphone trend to offer its own product, the Honor Play. Very powerful for its price range with its SoC Kirin 970 coupled with 4 GB of RAM, it has a very beautiful 6.3-inch LCD screen with high brightness and with 2340 x 1080 pixel definition. It also benefits from Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology, which allows it to increase in-game performance and deliver higher quality graphics.

Its 3750 mAh battery gives it good autonomy and the fast charging does the job very well. It is good in photos when the conditions are good, but has more difficulty when there is a lack of light. At this price and this level of performance, you have to make concessions somewhere. Released under Android 8.1 with EMUI 8.2 overlay, it has been updated to Android Pie 9.0.

The + The –
Its well-finished metal design
AI photos with saturated colors
Its very nice bright screen
Disappointing photos in backlight and low light
Its good performance and graphic quality
Disappointing audio quality for a gaming smartphone
Fast charging and its autonomy Very few games compatible with GPU Turbo

Honor, as a former subsidiary of Huawei resold in 2020, now shines thanks to its independence.

Thus, in 2022, the Honor brand is no longer subject to the embargo suffered by its former parent company and can therefore freely use American technologies. The brand was notably able to include Google’s mobile services, as well as the Snapdragon 778G chipset compatible with 5G in the Honor 50 series. internationally, with a 15% share of the Chinese smartphone market.

📱 Why buy an Honor smartphone?

The smartphones Honor represent an excellent alternative to Huawei smartphones. Affordable, they are offered at a lower price and offer the same characteristics with a few differences. Since its return to the smartphone market in 2021, Honor has offered its new interface on its devices. Magic UI which replaces EMUI.

On the other hand, the low cost of Honor smartphones induces some sacrifices on the technical aspect. For example, most of the first Honor smartphones did not benefit from IP certifications (they were not waterproof), even if this is not really the case today, since the Honor 50 is for example certified IP 68. Some early models also did not offer fast charging. In addition, their quality of manufacture remains average, but without making artifices. They are therefore good smartphones for their value for money, which are accessible and ideal for small budgets.
