Bitcoin, Ether: Ukraine received more than $52 million in cryptocurrency donations

Ukraine has decided to accept cryptocurrency donations to resist the Russian invasion. Thanks to donations from investors, the Ukrainian army received more than 52 million dollars in a few days. To thank the donors, the government has decided to offer cryptocurrency rewards.

Shortly after the Russian invasion, Ukraine has started accepting cryptocurrency donations. The funds raised should be used to provide equipment to the Ukrainian army, currently beset by Kremlin troops. Quickly, associations like Come Back Alive received considerable sums in cryptocurrencies, especially in Bitcoin (BTC).

Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, has posted several blockchain addresses intended to collect donations in digital currencies. At first, Ukraine was content to accept Bitcoin, Ether (ETH), and USDT, a stablecoin (a cryptocurrency whose price is stable) very widespread in the ecosystem.

Subsequently, the Ukrainian administration began to accept other popular cryptocurrencies, starting with Polkadot (DOT). The founder of the currency, Gavin Wood, has also paid 5 million in DOT.

A little after, donations in Dogecoin (DOGE) were also added by the government. Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, was also amused by the fact that the Dogecoin, a crypto born out of a joke, is now more valuable than the ruble, the national currency of Russia. Through the Ethereum blockchain, an NFT (non-fungible token) from the CryptoPunk collection was also sent to Ukraine. This digital work is valued at $200,000.

The initiative has generated real enthusiasm around the world. Within a few days, Ukraine received $52 million to equip his soldiers. The amounts received are directly visible on the blockchain.

To thank donors, and encourage further donations, Ukraine announced an “airdrop”. Concretely, the government will offer a reward to donorss. It is unknown what this reward will consist of at this time. It could be a cryptocurrency or an NFT.
